Cube ownership

As a Kenevo owner and a bit of a Specialized fanboy, I’m admittedly a bit blind when it comes to other ebike manufacturers. However, I’ve been tasked with finding my girlfriend an ebike for commuting and very light trail riding (I’m working on upping this though...).

I’ve landed on the 2021 Specialized Levo Hardtail and the 2021 Cube Reaction Hybrid One 500.

I’m currently leaning very heavily towards the Cube due to the spec and price but I have one key question:

How is the general quality and aftercare on a Cube bike? Can I expect straightforward warranty repairs from Cube as I do from Specialized or should I anticipate a more ‘budget’ approach to aftersales?

As a major German brand , I'd expect nothing less than full support in order to preserve their reputation and this was a factor in my recent decision making.I also purchased from a LBS with similar expectations but like all these things, you never really know what to expect until tested.I wouldn't see them as a budget brand personally so wouldn't expect a budget experience

I can't fully answer the question,but I can say I've never needed warranty at any level with my normal and now ebike...my ebike has had far to little use though to judge yet..since buying I've been non stop at work...good and bad I suppose

I think it depends on LBS. I’ve had personal experience with warranty work, absolute faultless service with very quick turn round, fantastic customer service. A mate has had an absolute nightmare, waiting 7 months to get a fault sorted, and, even though the bike was under warranty when he gave it back to LBS, it wasn’t when they eventually got the problem solved, ultimately costing him £700.

If it was me I’d research LBS to find out what their service is like.

Another tactic to get some extra protection i(at least in the UK) is to use a credit card for part of the purchase or finance as the Consumer Credit Act comes into play

Thanks guys!

The Hybrid one is with the Gen4 Bosch, which is one of the main reasons I am considering it. Never ridden a Bosch myself but at least it’s new tech rather than the Brose 1.2 on the Levo HT. The Cube looks a decent bike for the money.

We are based in Germany and have a Cube flagship store about 15mins away, so I’ll be dealing with them. Should (in theory) be the best Cube service possible.

My other half has that same 10 speed Shimano set up on her Cube Access Pro and with the KMC chain. Really long lasting and very strong.
with the 625 battery that bike is going to have a great range.

I have an older Reaction Hybrid Pro (now nearing 3 years and a few thousand miles) and it's been faultlessly reliable. In fact the only real problem I've had was the left crank arm coming off but that was my fault for not checking the bolts regularly. In general I think how well warranty claims are handled is as much down to where you bought it from as the manufacturer - unless perhaps something really serious goes wrong.

I had a cube acid hybrid previously and its a very capable bike. I used it for commuting on the road and light trail/fire track use. Its cheaper than the reaction too and comes with the same drive system and battery.

I got my wife the STEREO HYBRID 140 HPC RACE 625 in Turquoise blue. She absolutely loves it. We have done tons and tons of trails together, which she would never have enjoyed on a hard tail. If you can afford it, she will love you for it. She uses the Thule Carrier which can be easily and quickly mountes / removed. I also modified a cheap €7 stand for her. I have been riding Cube eBiked for 3 years now. My lbs handled any issues quickly and painlessly. I can recommend them particularly for Bang for the buck.

Why would you even expect a budget approach to aftermarket care? Bikes of this ilk are far from budget, and let's be honest specialised are notorious for por aftermarket care judging by the Internet

Well...the original post asked about general quality of Cube bikes
I've had the Spesh Kenevo (2018) and the Leve Expert (2020) - both were excellent to ride but i had a load of reliability issues with motor, battery, wiring harnesses and TCU. Between then returned to my LBS (25 miles away) 11 times, so almost 1000 miles on return trips just for warranty issues. The Spesh warranty is great, as are the bikes

But another LBS is a Cube stockist and also an Bosch service centre, which is ideal for the motor if i have issues (which i have'nt, but only 200 miles on it so far). So i went for the 2020 160 SL in August. Price wise, just more than half the cost of the Levo Expert. Yeah, it does'nt have the Fox suspension, but the Rockshox is very capable. Overall, love the bike and would recommend it

I never got even got 50 miles over a couple of rides without issues on the Spesh. For me, it's not just about how the bike looks or has the best components - i just want to get out and ride and not having the dread of another electrical failure on the bike.

Would take a lot for me to look at any other e-bike option at the moment

We’ve got 2 Stereo 140 Hybrids on order, an SL in Tan for me and a Race in grey for my wife, We both want stands for the bikes, can I ask where you got yours from? Thanks

My experience with 3 bikes at home, (one more arriving), and several friends with Cube, is that local dealer allways took care of any issue . But we had only minor problems to solve (a good indicator) .
