Crackling sound under braking

I put this under q&a because I found the answer myself. I had a crackling sound coming from my front wheel under heavy braking (using the front brake, that is). The sound went through the spokes so it wasn't initially clear to me what it was.
Turns out, some of the brake disc's screws had loosened themselves a bit. After tightening them the disturbing sound disappeared. The moral of the story? Check your bolts and screws regularly (especially after swapping parts)!
