Definitely cuddle it .. :)

Shouldn't make much difference to stored charge, but if possible try to warm it before you use it - which probably won't be possible .. So plod in Eco to slowly warm it rather than hammer it in Turbo from the go.

Battery with you in the van would be easier to cuddle than the whole bike though ?

The core temperature inside my beehive is 35 Celsius even in this weather. They use the honey collected from the summer as fuel for the winter in order to generate heat. ?
Actually that’s not quite true as I steal all their honey in the summer.
I do however give them cheap supermarket sugar in exchange and they never complain. ?

Bugger ! Wouldn't turn on ? Theoretically the TCU or the motor being cold shouldn't make a difference, only a cold battery would reduce performance. Wonder if the TCU power switch had frozen ? Pee on it next time ??

Haha never tried till I got home today, was on rack Sunday night inside windows on camper frozen in the morning. Never tried yesterday plan was cycling today but came home last night got a sneaky wee paddle though. Wrapped battery connection up but minus 5 maybe colder all night so as I say another lesson learnt. Roll on spring

At least you got a sneaky paddle .. when I saw the picture I thought you might end up sledging instead !

The problem with anything directly exposed to atmosphere (sky) is it will suffer radiant heat loss, so the air might be -5 but surfaces like the van roof, bike, road might be -10 as the universe sucks the energy out of everything. Just an old blanket lobbed over it would make a huge difference.

In it's simplest form ... think of the fact that it can be 3 degrees ... yet a road can have ice on it .. (as the temperature is dropping - rather than rising). Things radiate their energy to the universe ..

So if you leave your bike outside uncovered, the atmosphere will suck more heat out of it and reduce it's temperature to less than the air temperature..

Keeping it super simple and limiting it to just thermal radiation :
