Yep. You're a spit & a step from the south downs way at Chichester. Plenty of loops & routes taking it in for the looking. Not much to the south except coastal riding.

My parents live on the Goodwood Estate and every time I go there I can’t believe anyone hasn’t built some trails there as the terrain is made for it, yet I have never heard of any.

Cheers for some info , will have a look on Trailforks for some single track and there’s always QE PARK to as a last resort!

As the others have said there's the SDW. You're not far from Rogate Bike park and Hindhead as well. There are plenty of trails around if you know where to look.

I’ll be with a couple of novice(ish) family members so rogate and hindhead could put me in the doghouse ?

lol.
There are some gentle trails in Hindhead, the more well known "off-piste" ones have been shut down by the forestry commission but the wide bridleways are still open.
QECP is probably the best bet for a mixed ability group.

If you go to QECP with family, drive to the higher car park as there is a large playground and adventure course. If you cycle up a fireroad from here you can get to the start of the "bermageddon" part of the blue route which is great fun and might be ok for kids depending on age / ability. I took my 4 year old down there on a mac ride bike seat and she loved it. You can also go for a quick loop while the family plays.

If you want some gnarly stuff, look on trail forks for the trails off QECP. There is also Stoughton DH. Check out Wyn Masters on Strava, he is based in Chichester and you can see where he rides. Further east you've got Houghton and Steyning DH too.

I forgot there is also a Centurion Way disused railway path from Chichester for some gentle family riding. There is also a disused railway that goes to Hayling Island which avoids the traffic jams.

You can actually cycle down Portsea on some cycle paths, get the ferry over to Hayling and cycle back along the cycle path too if you fancy. Might be a bit far for a family though.

I've ridden the Centurion way before. Definitely gentle family stuff. Whitey above has it best. Round Whiteways, Arundel, Bury, all that is lovely scenery & family friendly. If you do get over Arundel way, top tip is the Black Rabbit pub by the river Arun, just below the castle. Really nice spot.

That’s bad news , there’s some tasty trails over there !
