Chain lube recommendation

What chain lube y’all using. I’ve been using DuPont chain save because it seems to keep things clean. Anything better ??

Mukoff Dry and Wet for me (wet in the current wet uk weather, but will swap to dry when it warms up), been great so far.

Using them both, I like them. Only mtb products I've found so far that excludes tests on animals. Plus they smell better, lol.

I've been using squirt but I've just had a go at this guys ( ) formula and it seems to be going OK. Bit of fluffing around taking the chain off and so forth but will be interesting to see if I get additional longevity out of the chain.

Finish Line Wet when it's wet and Finish Line Dry when it's dry (not very often in the UK).

Been using it for years and I get great chain life. Currently at 1200 miles and still nowhere near failing a chain checker.

I think honestly most of the modern ones are pretty damn good if you look after your chain, reapply frequently, and use a version specified for the conditions. I’ve used most of the common brands at one point or another. Don’t think any of them sucked.

I haven’t used a proper wax yet (e.g. Speedwax) but keen to try.

Same here. Used Squirt up until last week, then used the Oz Bike Wax formula. It'll be interesting to see the difference.

I'm putting chain saw oil to the test.So far so good.Next few weeks will be a good test as bikes will be well used on all sorts of ground.

Me too, goes on easy and takes ages to become excessive buildup and then it cleans off easy when it does.

If you ride in a dusty environment such as California, this bike chain lube from Finish Line is the only option. I use this on my downhill bike at Northstar and my road bike on the trails. After every ride, I recommend rinsing the transmission and chain. You will find that the dust just washes away without leaving grease like other chain lubricants. Reapply after rinsing and drying. This is how I keep my bike running smoothly in the CA dust.

After only getting 1000km out of an slx chain with 1mm wear reading using a "dry" lube I decided to head down the chain waxing path.

How are you finding the wax almost 2 years later?

I've got 4 chains to rotate through, did 330km on the first chain, starting squeeking a bit after a really wet ride so rotated off to the next one.

If it can make drive components last longer, as claimed, I'll be happy

I am still doing it, I usually rotate between two chains. Just recently I've been thinking of giving it away and moving back to squirt. The drive train is a lot cleaner but removing the chain, cleaning, rewaxing putting the chain back on is losing it's novelty, I'm surprised I've lasted this long.

It's definitely more cost effective, unsure if chains last longer as I stopped recording stuff but at a guess they probably do.

I hear ya on the lazy front I probably wouldnt be recording if garmin didnt make it so damn easy to do. I've got an older mate who has been waxing his chains since racing BMX as a kid, swears buy it. Will see how it all goes in 1000km or so i guess.

I'm still doing it. Had 3 chains in rotation and got 5500 out of the drive train.

On the new drive train it's a bit more complex. Had three chains in rotation but had "a bit of a mishap" and bent a chain and the largest sprocket when the rear mech went through the back wheel. Now rotating two chains on a mostly repaired rear cassette...

I rewax the every couple of hundred kms, which is now getting really boring...

Bit of an old thread this but hey ho. I have just started using Muc Off Dry on my new bike and chain but for years on my old MTB I used EP90 gear oil. It can make a bit of a mess but if, when you lube the chain, you really drench it on it also cleans the chain when you ride it as the muck gets flung off. Wherever it sticks, like on the chain stays, it really does a good job of protecting the paintwork too so after a good clean with a detergent it all looks like new.

I use these fancy modern lubes but since I don't see oily crud everywhere I always get the [probably false] impression that it's not doing anything.
