I cant believe that after only 100 miles my SLX chain is on .75 on my CC2 checker - Good job chains are cheap - I have switched to XT now so I will see if that lasts any longer or shorter than the SLX.

Can anyone beat 100 miles to wear a chain out!

No, but I know there's at least one person out there who has had a motor last less than that! o_O

My SLX chain is at .75 after 650 miles.

I have the CC2 and it does seem to show lower readings than I was expecting / hoping for! Can you recommend a good chain checker @Gary?

A new chain measures exactly 12" pin to pin, each fraction over that is the wear. The longer the section of chain you measure the more acurate your findings will be

Aha yes that is cool - measuring over more links like that is a great tip :)

That has spurred me to some online searching which turned up these links:

So an extra 1/16 inch over 12" is about 0.5% wear (for 24 links)

As an aside it's really interesting that 2 chain links is exactly 1 inch like that - says something about how they were designed :)
