I just finished doing the Cannell Trail n Kernville, Ca. It is on the IMBA Epic list and as I found out for good reason. The trail starts at Sherman Peak 9,300 feet of elevation and ends up in Kernville at 2,600 feet of elevation. We started at about 8:30 am and it was 38 degrees Fahrenheit out.
Right away it’s all single track through the trees. Perfect flowing trails with great dirt.
It is awesome single track for about 8 miles before hitting the first real flat part at around 8,000 feet of elevation. We rode along a huge meadow for a while before hitting the first big climb. It was super steep, loose dirt and rocks. I’m not ashamed to admit I had to walk a good portion of it. Honestly the climb was just flat out brutal.
After the climb it was back to fun flowing downhill again.
The last 8 miles of the ride you drop 5,000 feet of elevation. Right towards the end there is an amazing view of Lake Isabella.
The ride was just awesome I highly recommend if you live in SoCal looking into the ride. 29 miles with 90% of it being single track. 2,600 feet of climbing and nearly 7,000 feet of decent. I’ll post some GoPro videos up later.
