hi guys, so i need to bleed brakes on ebike, currently have TRP slate evo on them, which use mineral oil

I have shimano mineral oil and wondering if anyone as actually used shimano mineral oilon TRP brake

I've read Tektro advises against this as it oil as a different heating point but truthful i don't want to purchase more mineral oil as ive got loads of shimano

Anyone one done this and have you noticed any difference, if i do, it'll be a full clean out bleed to make sure

I've got Slates on mine, and yes I use Shimano mineral oil without any problems. Think it's more of TRP covering their own backsides incase some buffoon uses DOT 4 or the like.

I haven’t used Shimano oil in TRP brakes but have used TRP mineral oil in my Shimano’s.

Haven’t noticed any difference at all, just like you’re going to made sure it had a good flush through with the newer oil.

Other than the colour, I don’t notice much difference between the mineral oils. I have Shimano, Magura and Sram. (Red, Blue and Green …respectively). I also have a very small bottle of DOT fluid.

It may just be a way to void your warranty if you mix the mineral oil colours. Baby oil or olive oil is bad. It may be that the boiling points are slightly different. Don’t use DOT fluid in a mineral oil system.

I would top-up or flush with the specific oil for your brake system though. Small bottles are usually available.

I keep the funnels and syringes separate with special adapters and usually wash or rinse after use. I have a place dedicated for these tools and label them.
