Good morning , good evening depending on what part of the world you’re from. I’m not an out and out Ebike nerd but I do love mtb bikes tho. This will be my first Ebike , iv been tempted for years just can’t bring myself to spend 10k on the latest rigs. I have seen this bike which seems like a good deal. It won’t be my only bike so it won’t be getting thrashed . But I can’t resist the Ebike calling much longer.

The privateer e161 is down to 4k . I just don’t know motors and batteries. I’m 105kg

Shimano EP01, 85NM
Shimano BT-EN806, 630Wh

The bike will just be for a mad couple hours when I’m not riding regular bikes.

Try Pauls Cycles for a Raymon Tallray.
Cracking bikes at 1/2 the price .

EP801 is the best motor Shimano make. And that is a Shimano Gen2 battery, which when paired with the EP801 is a very good battery for that motor.

Maintained well, it's a solid motor/battery combination.

It's fine for what you describe, is a decent build & gets positive reviews. If I had to pick fault with it, I'd say you can get more battery for similar money & Shimano motors aren't the top of the tree & they're not really repairable. Shimano don't give technical support to third party motor service companies & usually just replace broken motors under warranty. The motor stuff boils down to a point of view - plenty of happy Shimano owners out there. But if you're looking for a good bike for two hour blasts, it's a winner.

Cube, Focus off the top of my head. That Raymon mentioned above is a good deal. Whyte e 160's can be had with 750 batteries & Bosch motors for around £3600.
The e160 looks good the spec is off compared the privateer. You suggest taking the better motor over the spec ?

I could always switch some bits off another bike to improve it.

I'd say the Bosch motor is a better drive unit than the Shimano & battery/motor should always be the prime consideration because for the most part, you can't upgrade them but, opinions may vary. I'd also say the biggest battery you can get is a good idea. Batteries today are sitting around 750-800 watt/hrs. 625 on that Privateer is on the small side by today's standards & will limit the range of the bike to 30-40 miles, depending on the usual factors, mode, rider weight, terrain etc.

30-40 miles !!! Never seen such distances in my life. Full days In the saddle do nothing for me.

I winch and plummet in woodlands . As many laps as I can get in 2 /3 hours. Steep up . Steep down .

Think I’m going for the privateer fellas . Il upload photos shortly after my mind has been blown first ride
The spec was sensational for the price.

I've run the Shimano EP600, (Which is almost identical to the EP801) with that Shimano 630Wh battery. Keep the connections free of dirt and water, by cleaning and using Water Dispersant, and it will be a solid motor.

Enjoy.
