Since we are on the cutting edge of the magical ebike Industry no bike seems to be free from developmental issues. Having said that buying spares if you can find them, is a huge guessing and waiting game. Plus buying each part separately can quickly become expensive. You figure just a spare battery and motor 😱can run close to 1/2 the cost of a new ride. So buying another identical bike or brand with same mtr and electronics kinda makes sense to a degree, even if it just means no more waiting for critical parts. I can find and purchase a new bike easier then finding and waiting for back ordered parts that may never come.

After all I NEED to ride to retain my sanity and physical shape !

I bought a "spare" Vitus E Sentier hardtail to compliment my Vitus E Sommet FS. Both interchangeable Shimano motors and batteries.

The "spare" bike's motor broke within its first 7 weeks of very light (road commuting) use.

Think I used the "spare" battery once in that time.

Spare motors, batteries and motor controllers/sensors/cables are available if you look hard enough. All at a fraction of the cost of a full spare bike.
Everything else is just bike parts and consumables so also available if you look hard enough.
Spare frame is the only thing you'll find difficult to buy.

Gary you are right in an ideal world, but currently it seems everything is upside down. I have had a spare motor on order now for over six months with no delivery date insight, perpetual back order.
Some other parts “batteries and motor controllers/sensors/cables are available if you look hard enough.” I have and continue to search the globe, some of these parts are currently just not available. So that’s why I was suggesting perhaps buying a currently available entire bike to at least get back in the saddle 🐎 Strange times we are in indeed ! 🤔 cheers 🍻

Yamaha x-2 the one used by Yamaha in their branded bikes. Apparently the Yamaha motors used in non Yamaha branded bike ie; Hiabike, Giant etc.have different connectors that will not fit.
