Just a heads up, to anybody who maybe thinking about buying an Orbea Wild carbon frame bike, in raw carbon titanium finish. I recently bought a brand new 2023/24 model year bike, with the raw carbon finish. To say I am disappointed, in the quality control on the way the raw carbon looks, is an understatement. I knew that having a raw carbon frame finish, I would see the carbon shades and shapes, but I didn’t expect a finish where it looks like the manufacturer has sprayed parts of the down tube (or some other process), to quite possibly hide defects or something, this is what it looks like to me!
Anyway I contacted Orbea, sent photos and informed of my disappointment of the finished appearance of the raw carbon frame. They have now replied and said “In short, as I said, we did not notice any anomaly. And, furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that since this is all part of the frame standards, it does not cause any quality or structural problems.”
They do not see a problem and that’s the end of the matter, as far as they are concerned.
So anybody that is thinking of buying a raw carbon titanium finish Orbea Wild, please be prepared to be disappointed with the look and finish, because Orbea clearly don’t have very high standards, when it comes to the finish for the raw carbon frame! I have included some photos for you to make your own minds up! It’s the areas that look like they have been sprayed, which is my disappointment, obviously you can see parts of the frame that has the raw carbon look, which is fine, but I didn’t expect the areas that look like they have been sprayed, to possibly hide the finish underneath!
I also asked about if in the future I wanted to have the frame sprayed by a professional frame painter, would this effect the warrant, they didn’t reply to that question! As much as I like my Wild, the response I got from Orbea, leads me to believe that quality control and customer satisfaction with their products, is pretty low on their priorities (especially when you consider the cost of emtbks), so I won’t be buying another Orbea in the future.
