I'm thinking about changing the XT brakes on my Rail.

I've had Hope E3 V4's on my previous bike, always thought they had loads of modulation but maybe not enough ultimate stopping power at times (could have been poor setup on my part).

I like the look of the new E4 V4's....but what else is out there? I don't like SRAM brakes.

Ignoring trickstuff because if the cost and difficilt availability.

The new hope tech 4 v4 and e4 brakes are getting great reviews, but i havent personally tried them. I used to have hope tech 3 e4 and thought they were terribly under powered,so am wary of getting sucked in by the hope hype again.

Trp dhr evo are supposed to be good, but again i have no personal experience.

I have magura mt7 on my fuel exe, theyre very good.

I have shimano xt 4 pot on my wild fs,also very good

And i have sram code rsc on my yt capra, also very good.

Of all the brakes i have tried the magura are prob my favourite, but brakes are such a personal thing, its hard to decide what to get just based on other peoples opinions.

I use Code RSC with SRAM pads and have never understood why folk change them out for something else except perhaps if they prefer the more "on/off" performance of most Shimano brakes I have ever used. I think the biggest differentiator between any of the brakes, given the same size rotor and 4 pot callipers, is how well they are maintained and how well you avoid getting pads or rotors contaminated.

After 30 years with Shimano brakes, I changed to Sram Code brakes mainly because they came with the bike. Code RSC have been good when I changed the discs and pads to better ones. The only problem has been the brake calipers. Pistons live a life of their own and you must service them every now and then. There was never such a problem with Shimano Saints.
