Powerfly Bosch PowerMore compatibility

Since developing a heart arrhythmia I've gone electric to enable me to continue cycle touring. A Trek Powerfly 7 Gen 4 Smart System (removable battery:)) was the perfect solution. Both Trek and the dealer told me it was not PowerMore compatible, but after a recent OS upgrade the Flow app says it is! The Bosch website states clearly that if the app says it's compatible, then it IS compatible. Trek Live Chat say it isn't but is rather evasive. It says it's not physically compatible because of potential snagging issues with the cable plug that can cause a short circuit(!). However, the latest Powerfly has the socket in exactly the same place but IS claimed to be compatible (I accept that mine has the flip-up cover, rather than the rotating cover of the later model). I asked for a definitive answer as to whether Trek have crippled the firmware to prevent the upgrade needed to accept the extender, but couldn't get a straight answer. I also couldn't get a straight answer as to whether my wife and I could swap batteries without issue (identical bikes)

Any views or experience would be welcome.

thanks,
Phil

Can't help you with respect to your Power More issue, I would like to fit one too but I have the reverse of your problem. In my case Haibike say my bike is compatible but getting the app. to agree is proving difficult. I also have a flip up (in the direction of the down tube) charging port cover but it seems that I can reverse it and hopefully it will then be out of the way, if not there is a removable rubber cap available which I think will work.
You certainly can exchange like batteries on the Smart System there are currently no restrictions. Although Bosch will soon apparently be announcing an electronic lock whereby the battery will only work with a specific motor as a theft deterrant but even with that there is an option to share with other pre selected bikes.

You need to check if your bike has the charging socket that's compatible with the Power More. If you search this forum you'll find people have posted about the difference before.

It looks like the digital battery lock is an optional enhancement that will be available later in 2025, but only if you pay the £5/month subscription to Flow+. I don't!

True but if you buy and fit the Bosch "Connect Module" at around £80* (GPS tracker and alarm) you get the "Flow+" subscription free for 12 months (additional years cost around £33*). That is a lot less than I paid for a good lock and chain which provides no additional protection for the battery. Worth thinking about I believe.

*Based on the current xchange rate of 1.20 Euros to the GBP
