Yeah isaw that, forgot to say it's for when I'm away in the van.
I've got a diesel heater which is great and need to cut a hole in my mtb box to dry clothes with that but there's nowt worse than cold wet boots the next day

Think he might have been joking....
I go to a shooting club and one of the things people do is fill their rifle rests with sand or cat litter. One guy was so tight that he did indeed use used cat litter. It took us several days to pin down the smell. My point being that it's not as outlandish as you might think as suggestions go.

I’ve had these absorba balls for years they work quite well , There comes a point where they have absorbed all they can and then stop air drying happening if you don’t remove them

I got this:
Renogy Boot Dryer Shoe Dryer, Glove Dryer & Boot Warmer with Heat Blower, Portable Adjustable Rack and Timer, Folding Design & Quick Drying for Shoes, Gloves, Hats, Socks, Ski Boots
Seems to work pretty well as long as the shoes aren’t dripping wet. If they are, put some newspaper / kitchen roll in and soak up the excess.
Can change the time it goes for - usually 2 x 20min is enough.
