Bike carriers

I have a food focus estate and it usually manages 65 to 70 on the motorway. With the towbar and the two bikes on the back boom im down to about 50. Going to bike park Wales or further it would probably cheaper to courior the bikes to destination.
Would a wrap around bike cover make it worse, extended rear spoiler, never seen one for a ford or just put up with kak mpg.

I used to know a chap who had a gas powered Land Rover, but I didn't realise you were able to refuel them yourself.
