Big Kenevo Problems...

I've had my Kenevo for about 4 months now and have had no problems with it. I ride in Whistler BC and ride hard but no issues other than dinged rims and burped tires. So, lately I've been getting out on long rides and the battery beeps and then power cuts out completely. I hit the bar mounted toggle switch up and down and I get nothing. No beeps - just deadness. Then I'll turn the system on and off a few times and it comes back to life - or not. Sometimes I just ride for a bit with no power and it comes back to life and works again. Other times, it just randomly beeps and goes from whatever mode I was in to Turbo without notice. I was at a remote trail a few days ago and it just died and I had to ride back to the car - luckily downhill. This is just not working for me. I've opened up the cover on the frame and unplugged, cleaned and replugged the cables but still doesn't seem to help. Also, on some occasions the power is really jerky and not progressive at all. I am on the original firmware from when I bought it in early May and I think there's a newer firmware for both the battery and motor but could upgrading that really help? What is going on here? Please help!

Each update fixes some bugs (and may bring others...) so I would try this first.

Could it be the remote switch? If it's possible to change mode without it I would disconnect it to try.

Take it to your local dealer. I think you either have a faulty remote switch or the motor to battery harness has a broken wire. Either way it’s under warranty.

Do you have any error codes showing up in the app?

Had this on 2 occasions.

the first was after water ingress after a series of particularly wet rides, including a river crossing!!. took it to the shop and they opening it up and cleaned it out and all was ok for 6 months.

Then had a couple of rides with the same symptoms as you, always indicated by the bar switches stopping working. In every case merely unplugging the battery/motor connector, cleaning and re-seating it fixed the problem. If you've already tried that I would take it into the shop as suggested.

New firmware update to battery and motor didn't help. Still have power cutting off occasionally. Happened just at the start of my 30 km singletrack with 1,000 metres of climbing ride today and didn't happen again after that. I also checked all the wires and leads and connections and they all seem fine. What next?... This Friday I'm going on a 2 day backcountry trip in the Chilcotins with a 2nd backup battery but I don't want to be stranded out there so I may just end up taking my Commencal Meta instead. Gonna be a long trip without my e but what else can I do? My mates are on regular bikes so at least we'll all be the same. But damn, I really wanted to give this trip a shot on my ebike...

Can the error be reproduced by bouncing the bike or touching/knocking on the battery connector? Sure sounds like a poor connection somewhere.

I guess it could happen with a faulty battery too. Is there a pattern? Does the shutdown always happen at low battery charge?

Bouncing the bike or knocking the battery connector doesn't seem to affect it. It usually happens at the beginning of rides with a full battery and not when it's low so I'm not sure whether it's a battery issue...

Would bring it back to the lbs - they should give you another battery for testing if it's battery related.
Did the lbs or you apply some contact spray to the power plug? And did they doublecheck the power-cable-clamp mentioned in Robs video?
Yeah Donnie - I'm pretty done screwing around with this. I think it may be time for them to just drop a new motor and cables into it on warranty and call it a day. I don't think they used contact spray and I checked the power cable clamp myself yesterday. It's not cutting into the wire but I did loosen it off a bit just in case it was too tight.

Did you ever overcome this problem ?

Yeah - after about 3 different attempts my LBS installed a new wire from the battery to the motor and also took off that clamp that notoriously pinches the wire too hard. Problem has been solved now since late August.

Glad you sorted it - I asked because during my last couple of rides I have encountered intermittent problems dropping down from from trail to eco. It is only intermittent but now I am aware I'm uncomfortable and need to get it sorted ..Any suggestions ?

Look in the thread above. There's a video about this certain clamp in the motor that pinches the wiring and is the likely cause of this issue.
