Battery software update?

Ive been (im)patiently awaiting delivery of my first ebike from Merlin Cycles UK - its a Wilier 803TRB with Shimano E7000 motor. Bike was ordered on 21st June and delivery has been dogged by Covid issues and delivery time has slipped from 2 weeks to 4 and to "who knows". Last Thursday I was advised that they had been awaiting a software upgrade for the battery and bike would ship that day. Today they advised me that they had still been awaiting the software upgrade but it had now been installed today and bike will ship tomorrow.

Any ideas what this mysterious and lengthy software update will consist of? Or do I smell BS?

In my Shimano Steps E8000 bike, by using eTube APP I can check and update FW versions of motor, display, DI2 derailleur, Di2 rapidfire shifter, motor assistance rapidfire control. But battery does not have FW version nor can be upgraded.
