Truth be told, I don't use Alibaba or AliExpress (and I suspect I'm not alone). Its difficult to advise or reccomend using them as an avenues to obtain the M510.
In addition, I've never subscribed to the notion that Bafang products carry warranty (whether that be manufacturer or seller warranty).

I will say this though. As soon as I receive confirmation of availability of the M510 (which is obtainable 'PROVEN' by means of using PayPal and receiving a tracking reference number and arriving), I will spread the word 👍🏿

Unfortunately, I can't say more than that (for the moment). But I'll do my utmost to 'bring about awareness'.

It should also be remembered that the M510 is not yet available for sale and I would treat the one from Alibaba as alpha or beta versions. There may be some problems later, like in the first m600 and plastic gear. I doubt that there will be any warranty for such an engine at all.

Living and buying a new product in Europe there must be some kind of guarantee. If you buy the product privately, you are additionally covered by the consumer right and you can use the warranty for up to two years if the product does not comply with the contract.

If you're buying the new engine - imo its better to pay more and get new revision, but if you owe the M500 - hard to say - for now i will stick with my m500.
Same here - stick with the M500 until M510 is available on wider basis. Would be interesting if the 14A firmware of M510 can be used for M500 as well. Then the only benefit would be the weight saving.

.......You raise a good point @Seqlat. You have to understand, my connections with my supplier allows me access to........ ebike products which ordinarily would be a hassle to obtain (especially with Brexit).. To that end, I forego any warranty and take full responsibility to ensure that the any motors I buy is maintained by myself.

Strictly speaking, my reasons for buying these motors, new frames, new batteries (or building batteries) and other required components, is in anticipation of a third party developer who is building a new controller for these newer motors which will allow more flexibility in terms of programming the motor.

Again, for the moment I cant go into to much detail. But the new controller for the M620 Ultra is very impressive in terms of torque values and responsiveness.

Nevertheless, I'll spread the word as best as I can once I've compiled more data and had more time to ride.

I've seen over 800 watts, but I find it hard to read the display when I'm riding as it's a DPC 241. So I'm not sure exactly. I'll see if the App will connect and then I can read it.

My eyes are too old 🤣

I don't have the firmware file for the M510
Hi Chris, the update on VMG homepage says You received an updated firmware flle for the M510. Would You kindly share that file with us, if possible?

Following this post…

i read M510 is 16A, this words are from Bafang specialist, if this is true it can be very close to the M600 and with a 1kg less

But for moment need more info, top speed limits and options for change for non legal limits in EU, or if can be accept batteries 52v…

regards

If 15.46 A is the maximum that has been recorded, it is probably a firmware programming of 14A.

From the Bafang Go app you can see and attach the firmware number as in M500/600 ???

Maybe there you can see, thank you very much for the report, good luck

Wasn't fully charged, battery showed 69%.

Yes firmware indicates 14A

Or even more, maybe even slightly over 16 A max. 70% charge is 50V, so 16A*50V = 800. Surely worth more testing.

There is no doubt - M510 looks awesome in numbers. Yay, i would like to have such one instead of my M500.
I am curious what it inside - the two metal gears or still one in plastic. Probably it can be heared without opening the engine.
Engine noise can be comparable to M500 or M600 ;)

You could try running your M500 on a 52 volt setup. At max 58.8 volts at say 13 amps = 760W's you are not far behind and $ 750.00 better off.
I was of the belief that the M500 wasn't geared inteenally for over-vaulting.
Have you tried this Wayne?
I only ask because I don't have a 52v battery which is compatible with the new frames I've got which supports the M500/M600/M510.

At now i am on 710W at cost 0.00$ ;) Thats better deal. By adding shunt resistor for 1$ i could make it for 1kW on M600 firmware, but i am worrying about the plastic gear.

Think that Luna put 2000w in the M600 with plastic gear and sell it to the public so calmly, I think it breaks more due to its bad use.

keep pushing

In other hand even bbshd is on plastic gears, but probably overall construction is far way different.

@VMG Chris the M510 is the same size as M500 or is slightly larger in similar way as M600 is?

Neeko, someway back on YTube was a video comparing both motor internals, from memory the motors had the same size bearings and internals, with just a couple of gear ratios changed and a smaller motor. I just checked on a search in YTube but couldn't find it, I think also it was listed on the EndlessSphere site as well, but the thread there is getting fairly long to go through.

At the end of the day it would be up to any reader to take the risk of over volting. Would I, most manufacturers are pretty conservative to gain reliability over long term high mileage and on the history of the M600 taking some real Wattage with relative ease, you would have to bet the M500 could take a tad more than we are putting through it at present.

Useful info. I'll look into it a bit more as I'm aware that variations exist between bafang models of motors subject to the era they are released.
These variations can include gearing materials, controller etc.

I'd rather not base my Intel primarily testimonials from a couple of years back. But I'll continue to tinker around with M500&M600.

Thanks anyway 👍🏿

Hey, I'm planning on welding up my own frame to put either an m510 or m600 in. Does anyone know where I can get the specs/measurements for the mount for this motor? I can't find it anywhere on the various Bafang websites and when I try and contact their sales I never get a response. I made this rough black stand-in from pics online.

Frame info: Steel front triangle, aluminum rear triangle. 160mm travel full suspension, single pivot. The mount onto the steel main triangle will be generic/agnostic, and I'll machine an aluminum insert/cabinet to allow for the potential of different motor mounts. But I need to know what the mounts are for the Bafang system first!

View attachment 81087

Hi Abordo, there is a communication or language barrier with the suppliers you are talking to. The M500, M600, and the new M510 all use the same mount and will all fit in the same frames.
