Are the Mavic E-Deemax really this bad option?

So I'm looking for a new EMTB, and some of the options I have looked at run Mavic E-Deemax wheels.
I looked at a few reviews over at The Lone Wolf and found the one about Mondraker Level R. Their report on these wheels are not encouraging ....
Can anyone owning these wheels provide some of their opinion/experience please?

Rather than starting another thread....

My rear on my KSL is tired after 800 miles and although it goes round I probably will replace it soon.

The shop recommended e-deemax as strong and fairly cost effective. Though many of them there are XC/road biased. A couple of mates have said not strong. Though they are sendy and crashy.
I can't find that many reviews and most are positive.
I can see there are two versions, S and non S the difference appears to be S is lighter and has different spokes but more cash, they have 28 spokes which is a worry as I'm heavy but we'll within limit.

Any experiences of these please?
