• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Anyone ever use the SPEEDi ebike speed delimiter on a Spec Turbo Levo Comp Alloy?

Anyone ever use the SPEEDi ebike speed delimiter on a Spec Turbo Levo Comp Alloy? I have both a Turbo Tero that is a class 3 and has 28MPH assist and my Levo only has 20MPH assist. There are times when on the street that getting say 25MPH assist out of the Levo would sure be nice. Anyone have any experience with it? I like the simplicity of it compared to the delimiters that are "wired in".

Thaks for any replies.

I've been using a PLANET3 in my Levos from 2019 onwards (2019 base model, 2021 S-Works and 2023 S-Works Gen3). From what I gathered when comparing to SPEEDi, the SPEEDi seems to be a "slower" copy of the original PLANET3. Both pretty much do the same, but PLANET3 is two times higher speed limit. All I can tell you is that it has some of the best customer support I've ever experienced both in terms of promptness and level of detail and support. Initially I had a problem (which was admittently my mistake) and even though I sent an email well outside working hours I got a reply and then the guy behind it called me via WhatsApp and lead me step by step through diagnostics. The replacement part I needed was sent the next morning and all I was charged was the shipping fee. Since then, I've bought 3 more devices and recommended to anyone who asked. In the Gen3 S-Works I've got their latest chip even though I was also slightly paranoid when messing with wiring but the owner explained all of my fears away - basically, their wired solution can perform the same way as the mechanical product but it can also do so much more. If you have any questions, I seriously recommend just contacting them through the web page Contact - PLANET3 and I have no doubt you'll get a quick reply.

Do you know, is there any effect on battery life when using this, (or the Speedi) product?
Thanks.

Long story short - you shouldn't care about battery life. When you ride your Tero @ 28 mph it consumes slightly more power than it would if you rode it @ 20 mph. If range or power consumption is a concern, you simply don't ride at a higher speed or you ride in Eco or Trail instead of Turbo. Bike being derestricted only affects the power consumption when you are using the motor in a scenario where you previously wouldn't have been using it. If it would cut your power at 20 mph and you're now riding at 24 mph - you are using power where you previously wouldn't be using it. However, all of that is rather negligible. If you've got a Mastermind TCU on the bike, you can look at power consumption live and I would suggest a test: find a flat piece of road and ride at a constant speed of 15 mph and really be smooth with your power input so that rider input and motor output are rather constant (let's say you will put in 150W and the motor will put in 200W @ 15 mph), then accelerate to 19 mph and keep it steady at 19 mph and look at your power consumption. You can also aim to keep your power input the same as during the 15 mph run and simply tune your support level to let you achieve 19 mph at a similar cadence (meaning you shift 1 gear higher, for example). Then you basically know what the difference is when you're riding 4-5 mph faster.. it's pretty much the same as with a car: it will consume less fuel if you don't drive as fast. The question is: would anyone in their right mind be OK with having a car limited to 50 mph just to keep the consumption from going up slightly when you feel it's warranted?

Anyway, power requirements to ride steep uphills are much higher than to go slightly faster on a flat road and if you're concerned with battery consumption then, you would simply use a lower mode of assistance. Appy the same logic to a derestricted bike.

I use my bikes as private shuttles as I live in an area with a steep road that we all climb and then descent via a trail network back to the same spot. It's 100% Turbo mode with Shuttle mode ticked ON and I have three 700Wh batteries that I simply change whenever I drop below 30% because the motor doesn't provide the same power at a lower state of charge as it does when the battery is above 40%. If I have a day of climbing with acoustic bike folk, one battery and Eco mode down-tuned to 12% assistance is all it takes and you can almost never run out of battery, but you still have assistance on the downhills at any speed to clear jumps.

I have it on my slash+, it is just perfect is you live in EU.
Helps me a lot in some flat section and where it slow too much from mud at this time of year to clear jump on DH.
Don’t mind the battery at all, better draining it a bit more but to have fun, plus I did not really felt big impact on it.
