As I'm coming from normal mtbs to e-mtbs (I point blank refuse to start calling them 'analogue' and 'acoustic' bikes 😁) I am learning all the time and one thing I have no knowledge on at all is how the drive system works?
I used to service my BBs myself, quite enjoyed it but I assume there is no BB as such on an ebike?
Had an annoying clicking last ride so popped the cranks and pedals off for a quick clean and regrease (turns out it was the seat rails 🙄) and was just staring at the spindle disappearing into the motor.

Basically, how the hell does it all work? 😂😂

Sorry for the rambling noobie question.

On an EMTB cranks are specific to the motor spindle ( Shimano, Bosch etc). The spindle is in effect the crankshaft of the motor drive by the electric motor either through gears or in the case of the Brose motor via a toothed belt. The crankshaft has a sprag bearing hence transfer of drive from the crankshaft to the cranks is one way only.............a further sprag bearing on the electric motor drive prevents the motor being driven backwards. The crankshaft also carries the torque sensor arrangement. There is no servicing you can carry out other than keep the spigots clean..........everything within the motor casing is sealed and not even LBS can open the motor.
