so I am going the other way. Have not been on clipless for 12 odd years and I don’t remember some things.

Purchased a pair of SPD XT Shimano Trail pedals. 5/10 shoes.

I have set the tension about half way on the release adjustment. No shims ended the cleats.

So sitting and ridding feels fine. However when I stand my feet they feel really unplanted, floating like. I don’t remember those feels.

Is this right or is something wrong. It’s scary like.

The XT/XTR pedals definitely don't give you much support outside of just the cleat and pedal interface. If you are coming off a big flat pedal with stiff shoes, you will definitely feel a bit different.

That's why pedals like the Time special and Shimano Saints and CB mallats are popular as they can offer some pedal to shoe interface outside of the cleat.

It important to remember to still use the same good form and drop heels while you are descending same as if you are on flats. The switch to clips from flats will definitely take a bit to get use to.
