Aggressive thread reply posts

My handle gives it all away. I am an old fart ie over 70, but I find it strange and at a times disturbing that its not that unusual to find some quite aggressive posts in reply to someones question and somebody elses answer. I started riding MTBs in 1984 when I brought back a Gary Fisher from Califormia after a business trip.

I think it is the nature of our sport that there are very many different levels of competence/expertise on this forum.Although long in the tooth I am anything but an expert, but I have clear views based on my experience of what works for me.

I have read several threads recently where somebody posted about x fork or y brakes or z rear shock and they are often immediately rubbished by " an expert" who holds an opposing ( diametrically opposite ?) view.

I support anybodies right to say I disagree, but some of these posts become quite abusive. One poster who may be a similar age to me based on his handle ( Mr ZF)seems to regularly attract some peoples venom.

Any chance that the moderator could introduce some guidelines for dissent and even suspending repeat abusive posters? Russia's behaviour and attitude towards other peoples does not need to be displayed here.

Retreating quickly and switching off "read replies"

If its the same ZF that I'm thinking of ..then I'm at a loss as to any venom being directed towards him ..
Well known for his good humour ( and piss taking ) ..all I have ever seen is the same being returned .
Are you not mistaking good natured banter in the guise of aggression...
I'm speaking as someone who can at times be pushed into the "red zone "..but I also think the moderators do a good enough job of tidying up and deleting anything that gets too out of hand ( even though I'm sometimes the recipient of such action 😁) ..

Maybe I am mistaken, but have seen some really aggressive posts recently. Good natured p**s taking is fine too and banter even better.. Maybe its the loss of use of articulate language that drives it??

You are right, Mr ZF take pretty much everything thrown at him with good humour and grace, shame some of his detractors cannot match it.

This is just a plea for some civility and acceptance of differing views. None of have any monopoly on being right all the time ( even me)

In fairness this forum seems pretty well balanced compared to some out there which just seem full of keyboard warriors looking for an argument and trying to prove they know more than any one else. I think Mr ZF thrives on the comments he sometimes works hard to attract as the previous poster said.

I'm all for polite discourse. A bit of banter and ribbing is fine, but aggressive piss-taking that would be fine around a table in a pub when you can be looking in the recipient's eyes can quickly go awry when just text is being used. That's one of the reasons emojis and emoticons before them became popular :)

Just a life observation: those that feel the freest to offend others are usually those that take offence most easily.

This forum is fairly fair when compared to other mtb forums, specially the non specific emtb ones.
Moderators have been doing a very good job here.

Don't you love such spelling ( I did say I was an old fart) "fell-off" or of course, he could have fallen orf his bike -if you are frightfully posh?

Sure he will be back and mobile again, shortly

fali, if you could repeat your post in French, Italian or possibly even German, I might be able to understand the ( undoubtedly) important point you are making?

Hey, Pops.
Just like in the real world, I have different feelings about people on this forum. Some folks I like. Some folks I'm ambivalent about. And some folks I strongly despise. In real life, when someone I despise comes along, I walk away.

On the forum, there's even a better option. You can hover over their name with your pointer, and a little window will pop up. One of the options in the pop-up is "ignore." Click it, and you will never again see anything they post. It's as if you wished them into the cornfield. And then there's the Nuclear Option--which I believe is set to default. When you "ignore" someone, then they can't see you, either. It's as if you send them to another universe. Rob, not me, but the other one who maintains the forum, has suggested that the nuclear option be reserved for only the most awful people that you can't stand.

There's nothing wrong with ignoring someone. What's "wrong," is when you respect yourself so little that you continue to let offensive people into your world.

fali, si pudiera repetir su publicación en francés, italiano o posiblemente incluso en alemán, podría entender el punto (sin duda) importante que está planteando.

I've had rubs with some folk on here, but rubbing is racing. Nobody has bothered me enough to want to ignore them, or worse, and that's from someone who is neurologically diverse and has significant mental health challenges. If I can stomach everyone, I imagine most will be able to! At the end of the day, we all ride bikes for the same reasons, so we all share common ground 🤘

I'm confused,? ( passive aggressive attempt to trigger a frustrated response)

After a thorough review of all 10,000 + posts from both zf and the person I thought this thread was actually about, I couldn't find any evidence of venom.

Time to reach out to the mods - Rob, how about a ride review of the venom?

It's got everything this thread needs -know how skills, Italian passion, even an old fashioned / honest battery pack sitting out where everyone can see it ( none of this polite subtlety )

Whilst I'm confessing to my intellectual limitations....

Any chance that the moderator could introduce some guidelines for dissent

oops, that might come under" flame or provoke" ?
