So forget for a second whether you should ever fully charge your battery, I charge my battery using the stock Shimano charger and then it turns off. My first question is: how much of the total charge that was put into the battery is lost for 24 hours when off the charger and second question is how much power is the LED screen on an e8000 Shimano setup using...

For background last week we started a loop that eventually got to Mr toad's wild Ride up in Tahoe in the pitch black and of course we forgot to take the lights that I had brought so that was fun and now we're just about to maybe do it again and I just plugged in my old battery and my new battery they've been charged previously and then and you know they're recharging and my bike battery which I fully charged a week ago is now on the charger charging I mean cuz the yellow light is is on on the Shimano unit and while I don't know exactly what's doing maybe it's just an equalization phase. And I they may be some people who have the electrical expertise on the forum who actually can do more than just take a guess. I did a Google search and I really can't find anything that specifically pertains to these two questions. It would have been nice to be able to completely turn off the LED screen because it got in the way of seeing the trail in the moonlight. So I'm going to take some painters tape with me if we manage to go out there today so that if we end up in full darkness and I don't want to turn the motor off which I had to do the last time so I could see, I can simply tape over the LED display at least have darkness though I'm still wasting electrons illuminating something I don't need to see as long as I know that it's on eco or whatever I don't really care about anything else. But I'm not looking for a complex fix of trying to eliminate the unit or any of that nonsense I just want to someone knows how to turn it off so it doesn't illuminate I went through all the settings I didn't see it it went from you can do the light levels but there wasn't an off switch

A healthy lithium battery will lose little or no charge over 24 hours, although as you are aware they don't like being stored that way. Likely it was just running running a balancing phase. Usually after 24 hours my charger just shuts off after about a minute if the battery is already fully charged.

You can turn the display brightness down in the settings but I don't think you can turn it off. Either some Gaffers tape (not duct) or a velcro loop (what I'd use) would be a cheap easy solution.
