A Hypothetical for Compatibility Geeks

Hello all,

This is all hypothetical.................

I have been looking into electric mini-bikes for a while now and have just stumbled upon a potentially good deal. A company call Bossbike (BossBike.com.au - The electric bicycle company) sell them in Australia and have a deal on frame + motor (i.e. no battery) for $1200, which seems pretty reasonable. The info is a bit limited, but I can see the 250w motor requires a 36V battery. My question - if I were to buy the appropriate mounting hardware and install it on the frame, would I be able to use my current Shimano battery? I am not 100% sure of the motor brand, but I think it is a Bafang. Does a Shimano battery only work with a Shimano motor or is it cross compatible?

Looking forward to hearing from someone far smarter than myself. In the meantime, I'll continue telling myself (and my partner) that's it's all hypothetical......
