50lbs vs 53lbs bike — will it be noticeable?

The bike was 50lbs before the swap, with the 750 battery, stock Voima battery cover and no fenders. It’s now 48.13lbs with 500w battery, Vision Velo battery adapter and cover as well as front and rear fenders. A 48lb Voima! Can’t wait to ride it and feel the difference!

None of us know for certain if our scales are 100% correct, but that's a hell of a weight for an Al frame, Bosch motor, 500 wh battery & a freakin dual crown fork.
I do see you have very light Berd wheels and Exo tires.

Since I bought it as a frameset, I picked every part for it with weight and durability for me and my riding style and terrain in mind. 50lb dumbbell shows 50.35lbs. I’m confident the weight is accurate. 😎👍🏼

It is definitely a unique bike. Are you finding that with the bike being so light, and you being lighter, that you still need the Bosch motor?

Cause swapping frames to say a Heckler SL with your build (maybe going to a single crown) would get you well under 40#s. My XL Relay frame/ motor/ battery/ shock weighs around 19#s for example. Pretty sure a size small Heckler SL would be around 16#s.

Thanks Suns, as for the motor and bike, it’s exactly what I wanted and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. From the beginning, I wanted a full power, long travel DH oriented frameset that I could build up how I wanted, (full 27.5 capable, light as possible but still burly and durable enough for me) and use it primarily for self shuttling DH. It actually turned out so much better than I expected! I love the Bosch motor and the Bosch race motor is even better. And what I didn’t expect is how good the bike pedals and climbs. You can literally do any kind of ride you want, trail, enduro, DH, long or short. Those were bonuses that I was stoked about and then when I saw the new improved Race ID frameset available, I had to have it! So I sold the OG Voima to get the improved race ID one, (for the race motor, race axles, slightly lighter frame and narrower headtube for a better turning radius for my 40 and the smaller wireless controller). The finished product is like if a monster truck and an F1 car had a baby. It’s the best of both worlds, because of the long plush travel, it can handle anything I can throw at it and it makes easy work of chunky rock gardens, drops, jumps etc. And because of the lighter weight, it handles everything better than a heavier build would. It accelerates faster, stops quicker, handles quicker and gets better range! I also love that it’s different than most other bikes, from its appearance, to how it’s made and where it’s from. I love it and that’s also why it lives in the house with me instead of in the garage, and luckily the wife has accepted it. 🤘🏻😅

I own a Crestline RS75 (aka RS 75/50) that weighs ~ 53lbs with a 750wh battery. I’m considering getting a 500wh battery for it for those days where my rides are shorter, which will make the bike weigh ~ 50lbs. Do you guys think 3lbs will make a difference in how the bike handles? The goal is to make the bike feel a little livelier, improve handling, etc.

My bikes probably 60 pounds. I wouldnt notice the difference. I have a 540w batt and a 900w batt and I cant tell the difference.

Update and first ride report with the new lighter battery. So first ride today with the smaller battery and I definitely noticed it. 20 mile ride with 2,850’ of elevation. I didn’t push on the climbs because I wasn’t sure what the range was going to be, but I rode up some steep sections that I usually use race mode on, but today I just used emtb on all of the climbs and it was easier than it usually is. I also rode 4 different DH trails that are a mixture of high speed flow and fast technical and chunky DH single track. I set new personal records on 2 of the 4 DH trails by a pretty significant amount of time and tied one of my PR’s on another, even though I came into a corner too hot and ended up in the bushes. I managed to keep it on 2 wheels and keep going, but I lost several seconds and I still tied my PR! The 4th DH I was checking out some different lines through a tech rock garden and just blew that one. But the climbs were noticeably easier and the DH was quicker throwing it around through high speed S turns and quick directional changes. There was even one small hike a bike section on one of the DH trails that has a large rock ledge that you have to go up and over. But it’s hard to do without casing it on the rock and losing all of your momentum, so that section usually has to be hiked up from that point. But I made it up and over it today! Pretty stoked! 🤘🏻😎
