I didn't see anything previously comparing these two models. The only thread I found was saying the main difference was the battery, but now that's equal. Is the Comp still worth an additional $2,000? I'm new to mountain bikes, hopefully picking one of these up today or tomorrow. Since I'm new, I was thinking the base would be fine, but the bike shop is saying the Comp is way better (forks, shifters, brakes) and would even hold its value better. Not sure if this is true, or if they were just trying to make a sale (the one that told me this didn't have any base models).

(the one that told me this didn't have any base models).

The base model is still listed with the 500wh battery (in Canada), so it is different (500 vs 700wh)
The other thing is availability... Not all models are available everywhere, in fact it is rather difficult to find the exact model that you want nowadays.
The Turbo Levo Comp is a great bike.
Welcome to emtb riding... Enjoy!

I think the bike shop is correct, with the battery aside, it depends on what type of owner you shall become….
If your the type to upgrade components, the base make sense otherwise the comp make sense.
I purchased for the battery though continue to make foolish purchases rendering the price difference between model a silly expense!

Comp has better transmission, brakes, better fork and bigger battery. Only the battery cost more than 1000

Here is a link to compare Product Compare | Specialized.com

Yeah, I saw the product compare, but none of it means anything to me besides the battery. Component name comparisons don't help since I'm new. I tried doing some research, but it's hard to find reviews comparing them. How bad the brakes are on the base vs comp, etc.

That's why I'm trying to help you. Those Shimano SLX have 4-piston calibers. They are better, especially on an emtb.
Guide Re on the base which are also 4 piston.

The comparison above has the base with the 500 w/h battery. If you are now saying both the base and comp you are being offered have the 700w/h battery but the prices are the same as in that comparison then the base is by far the better value. Other than that I would say the only weak component on the base are the forks. If you are new to mtb I would go for the base and maybe plan to upgrade the forks to something like the Lyric at a later date.

No way the base comes with 700wh. If that's the case then base is a no brainer. I ended up replacing brakes, fork & drivetrain on Comp 2020 anyway, but I wouldn't want to be without 700wh battery ...

I would go with the base. You'll find there are things you like and things you don't as you ride it. And then half (read all) the fun is researching and buying upgrades! The 35s on the base do suck, even for a beginner. Your arms will give out long before even a 500Wh battery. It should be the first to go but the 36 on the comp is not much of an upgrade to justify the price difference. And Guide RE are already an upgrade from what was on the same bike last year. Sram vs Shimano at comparable levels is more about preference rather than which is better. Go base and enjoy the Upgrade experience.
