I was kinda curious about the same thing to be honest. I believe canyon did some running updates tho on the spectralon over the year. The rear suspension had issues I think and some people say they fixed it ect. Be good though if someone could clarify cos I was considering a buy myself and wanted to weigh it up.

Cheers

Given they are almost the “last men standing” when it comes to using an external battery (Thok excepted) it seems inevitable we will see new frames from Canyon in the next 12-18 months. I am not certain it will be the 2020 model year though - the Neuron:On is still pretty new, so going fully integrated on the Spectral might cannibalize sales from that bike. Given almost no-one else is using an external battery in their latest models they may even view staying with that an advantage; they could then target the (admittedly smaller) subset of people like me who actually prefer them for practicality reasons.

I like the spec on the base line 6.0 using fox suspension and all, for the £3500 price tag it looks very appealing. I would probably prefer an integrated battery but the external certainly isn't a deal breaker for me. Just wondered if they had plans to release a new frame before Christmas this year, although I might be tempted just to pull the trigger before then.

I was speaking to a canyon representative a few days ago and they told me that the new Lux 2020 would be announced before the end of summer, and for ebike, they were planning something for le roc d’azur early October.
I think they will go for internal. Everyone is going for this, except cheap bike.

It’s now under £3200 with today’s reduction. Very tempted myself.

According to Canyon staff member that I spoke to this week, Canyon are committed to Shimano motors for foreseeable future. Presume that means the 2020 Spectral:ON's (and possibly others) will have Shimano motors and not Bosch as has been speculated elsewhere.

There is rumours that Shimano is preparing EP8 motor (E9000). If Canyon is going to stay with Shimano motors it is possible that they are waiting for official release of this motor to present their new e-bikes with bigger internal battery and of course new motor.
I am really curious how it develop because Spectral:ON is very high on my buying list of my new e-bike :)

If the 2020 Spectral ON has the E9000 motor and an internal battery I would struggle to justify to extra £££ for the 2020 Kenevo (which I am a big fan of)

I am agree. I will add that every e-bike owner should taking account future service costs and availability of specialistic service for engine. This for Specialized will be higher and finding service for Brose motors will be harder comparing to Shimano (plenty of Shimano Service Centers). So another plus for Canyon.

Check their website. Almost daily they adding new bikes. They started with 2020 road bikes. I suppose e-bikes will be the last they update :(
My thoughts:
1. If they are going to use E9000/EP8 maybe they need to wait to Shimano officials present their new motor first.
2. If they are going to switch to Bosch (I read some rumours about this) then maybe we will not need to wait so long.

I think it is highly unlikely we will see the E9000 any time soon. If it was going to be released imminently surely we wouldn't have seen so many new 2020 bikes from other Shimano brands (Commencal, Merida, Kona, Vitus, etc) with the E8000?

You are right. So we have third option:
3. We will see new frames with internal battery with E8000

Maybe, but again I just can’t believe the likes of Commencal and Merida in particular would have released new fully integrated frames based on the old battery of that were the case. The only other possibility is Shimano have somehow shoehorned more capacity into the same physical battery case, but that feels even less likely.

I know the EMBN guys are out at the roc d'azur this weekend and that is probably for the launch of it.
I talked to some of the Canyon guys at Roc, no new emtb being launched there they said. EMBN is doing the new GT Force GT-E, and probably some other stuff.

Oh really? This probably adds fuel to the E9000 motor rumour for the new Spectral then

Could be they're releasing something like the Strive:On later this fall. I honestly don't know though, just speculation. As others have mentioned, there are a few brands releasing new Shimano bikes for 2020. I don't expect to see a new Shimano motor until 2021, perhaps it colud be released as early as may 2020?

Surely that's good news Raymond, seeing as you and I have only just bought our 6's. I've already spent enough on e-mtbs this last twelve months.

lol you are right. I've had mines about 2 months now and love it. Just was interested to see if they were going with an integrated battery. I guess buy the time shimano release their next motor, Canyon will be there with a new spectral:eek:n.
I just can't help myself looking at new bikes, I'm on my second ebike since I started only 6 months ago ;-0

looks like no new 2020 Spectral:ON yet :-/

Shame, but nothing unexpected - they are clearly waiting for the E9000 before releasing a new model.

Ps - Yuck, that snot green colour on the new Kenevo looks even worse than in the pictures seen previously...

External battery on Canyon Spectral represents better weight distribution, lowering the center of mass, making easy to bunny hop for example. It's also better to handling the battery, either to charge it or to get inside protecting from the low temperature when the bike has to stay outside. You won't have to put up with your wife, saying to you that do not want the bike indoors. ;-).
This weekend at lunch i removed the battery and put to charger in half a minute inside the bar, a friend with a Turbo Levo asked to the owner if he can put the bike inside the bar to charge!! You can imagine the answer... :).
