Hi
My Riding partner has a 2018 Turbo Levo fattie (3.0 Ground control on the back and a 2.8 Butcher on the front) I find that in the conditions we ride the fat tires struggle with finding grip and he is constantly sliding out (Can also be the rider)

For a stage race coming up and lighten his load I am thinking of putting a set to 2.6 tires on (NN Adix Speedgrip and HD Apex Speedgrip) will the smaller tires effect the BB height to such an extent the he will be hitting his cranks on everything ? Anyone here "de-fattie" there bikes ?

I'm up the road from you in Knysna. I also found the 3.0 read tyre to have little grip. Have replaced it with a 2.8 butcher black diamond. In the front I changed to a 29er with a Goodyear Newton. Got plenty of grip now.

I have the mm front in 2.6 on my 18. Rear is a 2.6 butcher. I’m really happy with the improved(imo) handling characteristic. Butcher measures 2.4 in real life and is quite short in the sidewall. No pedal strike issues on standard cranks.

Put a better 3.0 and 2.8 tire on your bike and you will be amazed. The stock tires are terrible. I run Maxxis High Roller 2s in 27.5x3.0 front and rear and love them. If you wanna run 2.8s front and rear I recommend Minions. The bottom bracket height isn't changed by much but you will have a few more pedal strikes.

Every first Gen Levo I had, I switched to 29x2.6. The bike was faster, lighter and got much better range

Al what kind of range increases were you seeing with the 29ers. Im 230lbs and 6'3" and can squeeze out 20 to 22 miles a ride with the majority of single track in turbo and eco on the road for about 5 miles on the factory settings on mission control with the 27.5 2.8 butchers front and back.
