Other 2017 Levo cutting out

Hi,

My Levo has gradually started cutting out when I'm riding - it's now at the stage where when I start riding it will run and then after a 100 yards or so will slowly give less power until it stops. If I turn the battery off and on again it will work as above. When this first occurred, it would drop out for a while and then go back to normal, so it's worse now than when it first started.

I've replaced the wiring harness from the battery to the motor - the socket on the motor was corroded but this has been cleaned up. I'd assumed it was this cable that wasn't connecting properly. An expensive non-fix!!

The battery has been charging normally and is fully charged - and there's a voltage on the big pins on the wiring harness, so I'm assuming the battery is OK - or is there a voltage test like the one for a car that would indicate a failed battery?

I use BLevo and can see from the interface that cadence is as expected as well as rider power and bike power. Obviously bike power starts high as above and then drops back to zero when whatever is wrong causes the power to stop.

Would be great if anyone else has had this and could shed some light on what the issue is.

Thanks in advance

Simon

At a guess, the battery is at the end of it's useful life. Do you have access to another battery to test this?

Not the battery. After a lot more digging, it's the motor. Which after 7 years isn't bad. Apparently the seals begin to go and eventually the bearings corrode.

A quick check is that the pedals don't spin freely backwards. So basically the motor tries to work but can't give any power because of the friction in the bearings.

Berkshire Cycles will swap the old one out for a new one and did it for me today. Expensive but then all the bike has cost since new is tyres and brake pads. So I'm back up and running - or rather cycling... :-D

The guys at Berkshire are very good, apparently they normally have a few of each version of the Levo motors in stock, although it's worth phoning to check if you have the same issue as me. Took 30 mins or so to actually do but obvs mine had to join the small queue, so I was there for an hour and a half. Excellent service.
