Ok guys totally new to e mtb , managed 3 rides so far, nothing drastic but enough to realize these things are fantastic fun, I do have previous un assisted mtb years under my belt to appreciate the difference although that was another life time ago :)
I have even shoved the petrol power to one side and intend to make priority for the new addition lol.

Back to my original title, my bike was a bit clunky changing gear so I decided to have a look and reset the drive train up to as near perfect as a can get it, it does now change up and down smooth but in doing so noticed the massive chain twist from one extreme to the other, due to the fact the bike only has one front sprocket, from big to small the chain is way out of parallel with the front and rear sprocket:eek: it works but its a hell of an ask, is that the reason people go for a lower cog section on the rear or does this just work for miles and miles without stress on everything?
A few pics cus I like pics :)

Forgot to mention I have had to fit a hideous rear mudguard and a ridiculously sized phone mount for my iPhone plus, I think I might have to reconsider the latter .

You must certainly do, because this really almost blinded me.....:censored:
1x works perfect. About bigger chain angel, everything is design for that in mind, so don't worry about that.

When SRAM first brought out 12-speed kit, they said that they had to "totally redesign the chain". Allowing for a bit of hyperbole, because the chain still has a pitch of half an inch, they have made the chain a bit different. The side plates have different chamfers, and the material and hardness of the side plates and the pins are also different to allow for the narrower chain. I believe that the rollers have a slightly larger diameter too. All the changes they made, including to the chain rings (not sure about the cassette teeth, but probably) mean that the chain still runs perfectly well with the slightly higher offset in it. Don't forget that although there are more gears, the chain is narrower and the gears are closer together. Overall, the distance between the 10T and 50T is only slightly wider than the two outer gears on a 10-speed cassette.

The effect for me was that on my clockwork bike I was getting six times the chain life and all with perfect shifting. And less weight vs 2x10, better bar layout, ie the usual 1x benefits.

Very interesting thanks for the info .

1x12 SRAM Eagle drivetrains last much longer than the old school 2x and 3x drivetrains.
On my analogue bike, the X01 cassette has run around 7.000 km and the shifting is still flawless. I cycle 4 X01 chains and none of them worn more than 0,5% so don’t worry about the chain line it is as @steve_sordy explains quite different design to 2x and 3x drivetrains.
