Either or I think, some run normal coil or progressive, I've tried both and found out progressive suits me better as its more supple off the top(with the lower-ish progressive spring in), where as running a normal one is slightly stiffer off the top. My riding style is a mixture of jumps...
I've changed the fork, shock and brakes. It did say changing the shock voids warranty, I am not that bothered just keep everything you take off. If you need to send the bike back just put all the old stuff back on.
I can't remember if mine did come with pedals or not,. Think it might of been some cheap plastic ones. Most direct consumer bike brands you always have to buy pedals.

Nice. I am happy with my fox 38 180mm I've upgraded to. I decided to go with the none emtb version as it was the only one I could get at the time. I did not change the head set at all for it.
