Mines a 10 speed, i figured it would be easier to remove the links rather than add them later. I thought about using a chain guide but mine doesn't really have any mounting points for one and the seat tube is pretty wide and square-ish.

My problems began when i bent the original chainring, which i had repaired by having it bent back which made my chain drop very often, which chain do you use and how many links...
