Still a Dummy !! Does the 55mm chainline move the chain further away from the frame?

Is 2mm that significant? I guess the chain would be 'straight line' slightly more toward the s smaller cassette rings? And it would add a bit more clearance away from the chain guide? What am I missing? Thanks from a Dummy !!
