If you’ll post a couple of well-lighted close-ups of the messed-up port and the plug end of the cable, I’ll offer an opinion on whether it can be fixed. I like teasing things like this out!
Are the metal leads intact and properly positioned in both the port and the cable? If so, is it possible to clear away any plastic chunks that might be in the way and plug the cable in and get a connection? If so, can you then do some work on the existing plastic housing to make the set-up...

3) turned on the motor
4) freaked out because the opening logo screen disappeared after a couple of seconds, and nothing else came up
5) did 3 & 4 about 10 times
6) bought and installed the premium...
I just successfully installed a new E8000 motor in my Felt Redemption, and it's working perfectly. The motor is one of the ones available from a company in Germany--4mybike. Excellent price, delivered in about a week! $35 shipping.
