Hi GL, great info on the Boulder eMTB scene. A few things I would like to point out. 1. Left Hand OHV is unofficially open to eBikes. I have ridden there many times on my Levo and see lots of eMTB's and regular bikes. No one seems to care and it is steep challenging terrain. 2. I am...
I'm still happy with the Shimano SLX 4 piston brakes that came on my 2021 Levo Comp. I also love how easy they are to bleed. No brake fade on some long descents here in Colorado. I am a lighter rider (145 lbs) so that helps. I did replace the factory brake pads with Red MTX pads. The...
all good points, but Ergon grips made a HUGE difference for me. I also work regularly on conditioning and strength training. Grips are cheap, I say go try them. BTW, I also run Flexx bars on my dirt bike and think they help reduce arm pump.
Are they legal to ride there on single track, or, are folks ignoring the rules? Here in Boulder CO they are not allowed on single track, but are allowed on commuter paths. I’m trying to change this and personally believe Class 1 eBikes should be allowed anywhere analog bikes are allowed.
Is there a way to set the charging system to a specific target, such as 80%? Many electric cars have this feature and allow you to charge to a certain percentage to increase battery longevity. Given that the TCU is disconnected during charging, I'm assuming this cannot be set using the app...
I probably would have ordered the Gold pad for the front, but they were out of stock for the 4 piston Shimano brakes. I've never had a bike with Magura brakes, I've heard they are awesome but require a bit more maintenance?
BTW, thanks for the recommendation, I wasn't familiar with this company. I just ordered a set of Red MTX pads for my Levo. Based on my weight (145lbs) the folks at MTX said the red pads should be fine and MUCH quieter than the Shimano pads.
I’m also getting some brake squeal and might give these a try. Are “sintered” pads the same as metallic, or are they different? Are you still getting good results with these?
FYI, according to this article, any of the four piston brake pads in the XTR, XT and SLX line are all compatible:
First test: Shimano XT M8100 and SLX M7100 disc brakes – lots of power at a fair price | ENDURO Mountainbike Magazine
I agree that the metal pads seem to squeal very easily. I asked my LBS about going to resin and they said they would not recommend it due to the braking forces and heat that is generated. Please report back once you get your bike back from the shop and let us know how they are holding up...
The 2021 Pivot Shuttle was just released today. Looks to be an amazing bike, but very expensive and only offered in an XTR build for the moment. 726 WH battery and Shimano EP8 motor, should be killer!
Has anyone ever played around with the minimum level of assistance to make riding an eMTB feel like riding an analog mountain bike? The factory default level of 35% in Eco still feels much easier than peddling a regular bike. I was thinking of somewhere around 10%, 15%, or 20% assist? I could...
I'm surprised you don't like the SLX groupset. On my 2021 Turbo Levo Comp the shifting is very solid and precise, as good or better than my X01 Eagle on my analog Pivot Mach 5.5. Also, the SLX brakes have been great, expect they were initially fouled from some road grime coming home from a...
