Yes, that is correct. You can also do it via bluetooth as well. The advantage of the PCE cable is that to cvhange this setting you do not need to first downgrade the firmware.
Question about derestricting a EP8.
A few months ago I downgraded the firmware on my ep8 and have adjusted the wheel size, etc.. However I have just left the motor running the lower firmware version.
Should I now update the firmware on the motor? If so do I just use the shimano e-tube app to...
Sorry, what do you mnean by "then update to the actual firmware"? I used stunlocker with an ep8 on a different bike. That time I just downgraded the firmware and have never updated the firmware since.
With the EP8-RS, do I downgrade the firmware, edit the cirfumference/region,etc.. and then...
Can a EP8-RS be derestricted via bluetooth? Or can this only be done via the pc interface? Also does the motor need to be on a specific firmware version to be derestricted? thx
I just bought a used Merida eSpresso 300 SE. It has a E5000 motor and a SC-5000A display. I also have a SC-E7000 display on my other ebike (merida e160, ep8) that I have derestricted with stunlocker.
If I want to derestrict the eSpresso 300 and I just temporarily connect the sc-e7000...

I'm not criticising Rob for a 1000km test. After 1000km on my bike I still loved it. It's taken me another 3000km to call it garbage.
I also didn't ride 300km and then call it a long term review. I'm simply stating that there are issues with the bike that may only appear after a few thousand...
I really respect Rob and enjoy the content that he puts out.
However personally I don't think 1000km is enough to call something a long term review or find out the many issues that appear over time.
When I demoed a Rail before buying one I put 300km on the bike in the 3 days I had it.
I've...
I predict we will see mainstream emtb brands move even further away from shared standards with ebikes. At the moment you can put the same shimano motor into a number of brand name and no-name chinese emtb frames. I suspect that brands will be asking shimano to make a motor housing that has the...
It was a massive high speed crash. The bike is made for mountain biking, not being flipped upside down and having the seat stay smashed onto rocks. I'm not a dick, I agree that it's not covered by warranty, consumer guarantees, etc.. I am just trying to get a replacement (that I will pay for)...
If this was a genuine warranty defect they would have replaced the frame.
It would have taken 1-2weeks for the frame to be delivered to the shop from taiwan.
It would cost a few hundred dollars for the shop to swap over all components (which the customer pays)
Not sure how you got that from what I wrote.
To clarify I do understand that nothing is perfect with retailers / distributors / manufacturers and their systems and processes can be a mess, that's fair enough. I don't expect miracles. I also don't expect them to hand out a free frame under...
FYI, I am located in Australia. I did have the location listed on my forum profile as 'USA' (I've changed it now).
The shop also has the serial number on the frame so they know exactly what is required.
I've had some experience with big companies and I just get the feeling that Giant don't...
Cheers. Good idea. Unfortunately I don't have any home insurance / credit card protection, etc.. that would cover me. Does highlight the value of having bike insurance.
Just blows my mind that you can't get a frame from the biggest manufacturer in the world, but you can go on aliexpress / alibaba and find a frame no worries. If only giant had shimano motors.
I don't think the 2nd hand market has popped just yet.
I've seen a few 2020 Trek powerfly 9.7 bikes for sale advertised at around $6000-$6200. Now that bike, when sold brand new from a shop was $6000 (but marked as RRP$8000 'on sale'). The crazy thing is that they are selling for $5.5k. That...
So I have a new Giant Talon E. Ridden a few times before the bike was crashed.
After the crash the rear seat stay has bent and split from the frame.
Warranty was denied as the damage was due to a crash. The shop was not able to provide a replacement frame.
Obviously because this was damaged...
You would need to remove the fork and the knock block adapter that screws onto the frame to check. The picture above is just one example that was very obvious. Otherwise if there is no crack in the frame count yourself lucky.
In these instances warranty claims have been denied as a crack in...
