Everyone who owns a PEV around here claims they're an ebike even if it only has one wheel and does 50+mph..... The US ebike laws define what is what, but none of the LEOs know, or can tell the difference. It's rare for them to get involved anyway, it's pretty much open season.
Such a small market, I wonder why they bothered? Every time I've ridden a fat bike on dirt, I feel like I'm riding a tractor. Every time I've ridden a fat bike on snow, I'd rather have been on skis. Not my thing.
For the record, I'm a Fezzari fan. Nice bikes.
I bikepack and can tell you that a 70lb bike rides like poo. A reasonable compromise since bikepacking is like backpacking, it's about the experience of traveling and camping in cool places, and it's definitely not about optimizing the riding experience. Your bike, however, is ALL about the...
I'd only fault Gary in that what he thought worked well in Scotland worked in the rest of the world. Other than that, I agreed with the vast majority of his opinions. He suffered no fools, which is a tough position on an internet forum..... lol.
The Z bikes are good bang for the buck, as far as geometry, they're the same Chinese clone frames being used by others, I don't think the geometry is that horrible. Look on the forum for threads about the Dengfu frames/bikes.
I don't trust Trailforks or any that are created with user supplied data, they're often wrong in both directions. CoTrex is accurate since all the data is supplied by land agencies, but they don't have a filter for ebikes. The best you can do is for motorized. If you care, just go to the web...
Yeah, on their website, I couldn't even figure out what part of the world they're located in. I've been down the road of very small bike companies before and wouldn't again. I'll be interested to see what comes of it, there isn't yet enough info for me to get very excited about it.
It's generally the reverse in the US, they are only allowed on singletrack trails where specifically allowed. With the bikes we ride though, they blend right in, so it's almost a non issue. YMMV
You are far more optimistic than I. Any designation change will require environmental impact studies and result in lawsuits by basically everyone except us. We won't see significant change for years, or until a new USFS director changes it.
Unlike in the UK/EU/rest of the world, you can call anything an ebike here in the US and sell it. So, yeah, there are certified Class 1 bikes that are the same as yours, but lots of overpowered garbage ebikes too. Most of them bought by idiots like Simon Cowell lol. No one has figured out what...
I'll adjust my tire pressure in the local I'm riding in. So, yes, routinely adjust for higher elevations. The only time I don't is when I'm starting high, but finishing low, then I'll set it for a lower elevation. In response to "lol, it doesn't matter that much", if your ride involves 5-7k ft...
