I just did a small experiment. With the fox 36 and the 29" wheel with the 2.6 tire the blue fork cap is 860 mm vertical from the floor. With 27.5 Hope wheel sporting an older Nobby Nic 2.35 the height measures 840 mm vertical. That means the motor is probably less than 10 mm lower.

1990's : 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 on lightweight hardtails
Noughties: 2.1 and 2.2 on the outside on race FS bikes, sub 10 kg on a scalpel
2010's : 2.35 on enduro, and maybe a 2.4 on the Gen 2 Bosch ful sus bikes
Now : 2.6 and 2.8 on my Levo ? I assume they have their place when you want to go mud...

Knowing forums, the topic will quickly degenerate into an argument why the reasons are wrong, completely ignoring the question, while the people asking for the reasons never answer the question in the first place.
But for those of you who do answer :

Hey everyone,
I got a comp carbon last week, and for various reasons I'm wondering about replacing the 29 front with a 27.5. Have any of you done this, if so with what wheel, and what are your findings ?
Thanks, Pete
