Merida just announced a 180mm bike, but somehow made it weigh 27.5kg. I still don't get how some brands made their new range heavier than the previous one despite a free 600g reduction in the electronics.
Agreed, Mondraker did a great job on this, personally I'd like a bike with a bit more travel, but this one has no dealbreakers: the battery is removable, the weight is fine, the builds are ok for the money, cables go into the frame.
I think they should have leaned into it and joked about how it's an ebike when you are riding by yourself or with close friends, but can be run without the battery on uplift days and will ride downhill like the best steel bike ever made.
I actually think it's a shame more brands don't try to...
I think you are mixing up the fox 36 which is around 2kg and the fox 38 which is closer to 2300g. Both forks would work fine at 160mm unless you are quite heavy in which case a 38 will make more sense.
Wheels and cassette are good places to try to lose some weight and feel the difference.
Hi, a couple of questions:
On my ride today the electronics stopped working and the bike showed a red flashing LED that I'm pretty sure was on the third/middle LED. I restarted it and it was all good. I've seen the posts about the 2nd red flashing LED, but can't find any info on the third...
It was just a way to start a discussion topic during the week of the new bosch release.
Turns out some of the new bikes don't have the new motor and many don't have the 800Wh battery, so we can't really consider them Gen5. So in the end I added the AMflow which is very attractive in the trail...
Such a miss, really weird that they release this now and at that price. They could have just announced this months ago to get ahead of the gen 5 release, feels so deflated now.
Also, do we think this is just the AM frame long shocked? geo seems to match up. My guess is they didn't sell enough...
Will you be releasing a video/podcast talking about the descending performance of the amflow @Rob Rides EMTB ? I think you have the only coil shock equipped one.
I believe there is another round of bikes being announced next week (based on emtb-news embargo calendar), hoping for a bit more...
Nice looking bike! Didn't realise they were already shipping the one44. Looking forward to ride reports!
Out of curiosity, if you happen to have a few minutes: Did you weigh it? Could you take a picture with the battery "door" open to see how high/low the battery sits? Could you measure the BB...
The only issue I have with the amflow is the rear shock is tiny and apparently a yoke activated trunnion shock is likely to be very unreliable. So waiting for the motor to appear on a bike intended for big jumps and rough trails.
It's the lightest full power motor
It's the smallest full power motor
It's the most powerful motor, by a lot
It's available in a bike that is cheaper than its competitors, while providing twice the power and battery capacity as other SL bikes, and is up to 4kg lighter than equivalent full power...
Yes, as I said, this is a just an example to help think about why bikes cost what they do, obviously taxes, sales, stock they can't shift, warranties, overheads at warehouses/shops etc play a massive role in actual profitability of the entire chain. A big element of the price for brands and...
The maths are a bit fuzzy, especially with carbon frames where the cost is mostly in the mold rather than each individual frame etc. But the main reason for the high costs of bikes is the number of middlemen involved in selling the bike. All numbers below are made up and inaccurate but help...
I have overforked my last 2 bikes, but 190mm on the wild seems a bit extreme. Only because the BB is already high around 355mm in 160mm front, so you would end up with a ~365mm BB which will be quite high and affect the turning feel.
Similar-ish deals in europe, I would personally aim for the M20 2024 which I can see at 5200 instead of 7300, my LBS has one for 5800. 2023 model is 4800, but the fork needs to be binned. Also not sure how much I like th eidea of the battery sitting in storage for 2+ years.
Generally speaking...
I saw the new spectral on:fly at a bike show today, holy moly it is probably the best looking bike I have ever seen, the proportions and angles work so well. I would just need it to have more of everything, travel, power and range for it to be my dream bike!
I think for me the ideal bike would be 1200Wh battery with current Bosch/DJI power available, 21-22kg. Should be realistic in about 5 years.
Yes, that's already very much the case for me.
Oh wait, you were being sarcastic right, sorry but we are out there! I'm not alone!
@Rob Rides EMTB on the unlikely chance that you travel to Nice/Finale area with the DJI in the near future:
This segment, less than an hour from Nice airport is a ~10 minute technical climb. Chemin Saint Martin - Portail Climb VAE | Strava E-Bike Segment in Tourrettes-sur-Loup...
