I did the same to my Bontrager dropper post after it started making a grinding sound on the way down. Surprised since doing this, my dropper has been buttery smooth. I can't see how doing this would void your warranty - but I don't know for sure.
So I yesterday finally installed the new brake pads (Shimano metal).
The hardest part (as you and others have alluded to) was centering the rotor inside the caliper.
The "trick" posted everywhere of loosening the caliper bolts, and re-tightening them while squeezing the brake lever did not work...
Hey, thanks for your response!
I am going to try your suggestions on centering the caliper.
But I also got new brake pads - metal ones from Shimano. You are correct, my bike came with metal pads.
I wanted to try resin ones as you suggested; but none of my 3 local bike shops had any Shimano...
So I think you guys are correct - there is indeed a problem with my front disc brakes.
Yesterday, they started squealing again, though not nearly as loud as before.
But more concerning, today I felt on 2 occasions, the sound/feel of metal on metal when I applied the front brakes.
I don't know...
Can you ride on the road in Israel?
When I visited, I don't recall seeing bike lanes; but maybe there are some now.
And in Israel, they drive cars like in other Mediteranean countries (ie., like maniacs :)).
I did have a look at my rotors, calipers, and springs.
Both up front, and in the rear, I can easily wiggle the spring side to side on the cotter pin.
The rotors and calipers are fixed solid.
I centered both springs as best I could - but I'm sure once I ride over the next pothole, the springs...
Yes, I think I see what you guys mean. At a minimum, the spring looks off-center.
I'll try giving the spring a wiggle; failing that, I'll try re-centering the caliper.
Hi! Could you tell me which side of the spring in the above photos (1st post, looking at the screen) do you think is bent?
And is it bent in the middle (at the hinge), top half, bottom half?
Below are photos of my rear brake pads. To my eye, the spring looks the same as the spring in my front...
Well, before I started this thread, I would have said I have lots of hills; but based on the comments, I suppose 188 meters elevation (according to the Relive app) is just a small bump for you guys :)
Now I can see that I do indeed have lots of pad material left; before I didn't know how to...
I have a Trek Powerfly FS 7 2019, with 1300 km on it.
Since day 1, I get a high pitched squeal when using my front brake.
Brake power seems normal; I can easily brake using 1 finger.
I accepted the squeal up until now - I thought if the performance of the brake is normal, I'll just live with...
I flipped my mino-link to the low position.
I can only pedal with one leg (no quads in the other), and have balance issues.
The low position makes the Powerfly (2019) much more stable (lower bottom bracket), at least for me.
