I used the 638 on my axle about a month ago. At the time I decided to order a new upper axle because it had some significant wear on the splines. It took four weeks to get my new axle from Orbea. I can tell you from first hand experience the 638 works. I had to break out the soft rubber mallet...
I have the Nobl TR37 with Hydras on my Rise. Noble makes a good wheel. The Hydras have worked out nicely. Just know you'll have to replace the bearings around the 1,200 -1,500 mile mark. I weigh 195 lbs., so maybe that has something to do with it. It's a simple process to replace the bearings...
That's awesome news, I'm glad you identified the problem. I have a set of Nox Teocalli wheels with DT Swiss 350 hubs. They have about 7,000 miles on them and they are still going strong on my brother's bike. Just bullet proof hubs.
There have been several posts from people who were breaking...
sgtcurry,
I agree with Rich, I would grease the lower pivot axle just to eliminate it from the noise isolation process.
What you are describing sounds like a rear hub bearing or possibly a cassette freehub bearing may be going bad. The drive side hub bearing and the cassette freehub bearings...
Balticmoe,
Thank you for the nice comments, I do appreciate them. I learn from everybody myself. As people respond, I add the information to the tech article and it's a constantly evolving article. Unfortunately, eMTB Forum limits postings to a maximum use of 20,000 characters. Trying to edit...
PART # 1: ORBEA RISE - UPPER LINKAGE AXLE AND BEARING SERVICE
My 2021 Rise currently has 2,100 miles on the bike. The pivot bearings have held up nicely. I like to do a complete service of the pivot linkage, i.e. remove the linkage, inspect, clean and lubricate the bearings about every six...
SgtCurry,
When I checked the tech article, it was displaying all of the pictures and YouTube videos. Are you talking about the Part # 1 Upper Linkage or Part # 2 Lower Linkage article? Can you identify counting down from the top which pictures are missing, i.e. picture 5, picture 6? I also...
Yep, I had a similar experience. I found that exposure to water causes the grease used by the Orbea factory during assembly to wash off the pivot axles where they make contact with the frame pivot bearings. The creaking starts off with a light occasional creak but will get progressively louder...
I would imagine each national park is a separate entity in and of itself and would require a separate National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) eBike report for that land use area. The Bureau of Land Management works in this manner for each of it's land districts. I recently spoke to the BLM...
Big J, make sure the linkage arm pinch bolts have a liberal coating of blue loctite. Several people have reported their linkage arm pinch bolts only had a very slight amount of blue loctite.
Regarding the cylindrical retaining compound. I would put a small bead around the axle spline and...
I’d consider it normal wear and tear. Once you‘ve do it a few times, you’ll dial the process in and realize it’s a quick and easy fix. The Rise is such an outstanding bike, but it does have some minor weaknesses such as the pivot axles not being sealed and which need to be greased every few...
Cookie,
With the linkage arm preload adjusted correctly there should not be any side to side lateral play. Also, the axle should not be visible between the frame and linkage arm.
I would suggest buying a bottle of Loctite 638 cylindrical retaining compound. If you have lateral play, this would...
The upper and lower pivot axles are not sealed. Because there isn't any sealing, dust and water will eventually work into the pivot axle assembly and dry up or wash out the grease lubricating the axles where they ride on the bearings. When this happens, the pivot axles will start creaking...
Knee pads are such a personal thing. What will work for one person, may not work for another person. Fitment is the key thing here.
All knee pads tend to work on the first impact. However, on high speed crashes, your knee will often hit the ground multiple times. The trick is to find a knee pad...
Regarding flats. I like the OneUp Aluminum pedal. It grips incredibly well, very sturdy and easy to maintain. If you want a very thin pedal that grips well, I like the Canfield Mountain also.

I checked the Occam Blue Paper and it looks like Orbea redesigned the linkage arm assembly to get the 150mm. The 2021 140mm rear travel Occam uses a three piece upper linkage arm assembly. The 2022 150mm rear travel Occam/Occam LT uses a two piece upper linkage arm assembly. Orbea states the two...
Cookie,
About every six months or so, I drop the fork enough to remove the upper and lower headset bearings which I place on my work bench.
I completely clean the fork crown race, the lower and upper headtube bearing cups and the headset top cap seal assembly using a rag and isopropyl...
Cookie,
For the last four years, I've been using the same Chris King Drop 2 headset. I installed it "Mango Orange" new on my Yeti SB130 in 2019. After blowing out my ankle, I bought an Orbea Rise and transferred the headset over to the Rise. I went with a black stem cap and top cap on Rise. The...
Crunch,
The Rise uses an "Integrated" headset design. The smaller upper headset cartridge bearing, is an "IS42/28.6". The larger lower headset cartridge bearing, is an "IS52/40"
I've attached diagrams from the Rise Blue Paper manual for reference.
You can buy the IS52/40 bearing by itself...
