Sometimes, a small pocket of air can be trapped inside the syringe hose and the caliper bleeder nipple. If you were to push on the syringe plunger, it would push the air pocket into the brake caliper and cause issues. You want to avoid doing this.
To prevent this from occurring, you should pull...
eMTB member Shockwave provided a useful tip when servicing your caliper brake pistons. In his post he provided a picture of a caliper with plastic zip ties wrapped around it.
I would like to add context to the picture and why it’s a very useful suggestion.
When you attempt a piston cleaning...
Malicefox,
Thank you for pointing this out. You are 100% correct. I went back and checked with Fox who also owns Marzocchi. All pre-2022 Fox 34, Fox 34 Step Cast and Marzocchi Bomber Z2 suspension forks have 160mm post mounts. However in 2022, Fox changed the post mounts on the Fox 34 and Fox...
Soundwave, the sound you recorded doesn't sound normal. As you know there will always be a squishy sound when pushing down and releasing the bike, due to the shock oil cycling through the valving. It should be a quieter fluid sound.
If you could humor me a bit. Let's try this first: Write down...
I've yet to have an issue with the lower axle assembly other than the occasional creaking from a dry axle assembly which needs to be re-greased. The lower axle assembly when it does start to creak, will have a deep tone to the creaking. The upper axle has a higher pitched tone to the creaking...
Jfive,
I've done a two part technical series on servicing the Rise upper and lower pivot axles and linkage. It's a fairly easy process and both articles go into detail on how to perform the service.
In most instances, it will be the upper linkage that is causing the creaking. The cause of the...
This technical article is the second installment in a two part series on Shimano brake systems.
Refer to “Part # 1: Shimano Brake System Service”, for information on bleeding and servicing Shimano brakes and brake pad compounds...
I agree with Shjay. I would follow his suggestion first. Also, if the wire was pulled roughly out of the display with force, then a connection inside the actual jumper wire may have been damaged and the jumper wire will need to be replaced.
Check out this post which contains info on wiring...
I was riding down an access road in El Moro Canyon. I thought a hiker has lost a scarf which was laying across the road. The rabbit said he missed the memo on snake avoidance techniques.

Cookie and Soundwave,
The quick answer is "Yes" you can improve the "Bite Point", however it takes work. Shimano's bite point, also called Free Stroke Adjustment, works, but it's not great. There are other brake designs with free stroke adjustment which are better. I personally like my brakes...
I believe he is referring to the brake bleeder syringe.
To bleed Shimano brakes, thread the fill cup into the lever body. Place the stopper in the fill cup port and fill the cup about 3/4 of the way full with brake fluid.
Fill your brake bleeder syringe about 3/4 full with brake fluid. Push...
Peter,
Thank you, I appreciate the awesome comment. It's always nice helping others and hopefully I can save others from making the same mistake I did with cracking the piston while bleeding the caliper.
This will be a three part technical article discussing Shimano braking system components, how to service your Shimano brakes and brake system modification on your Rise.
Part # 1 will discuss basic maintenance on your Shimano brakes.
Part # 2 will discuss brake modifications to your Orbea...
cookie70,
I would first try the retaining compound yourself. The stuff works well at keeping the linkage arms on the axle.
If that doesn’t fix the issue, then I would seek a warranty claim regarding issues with the axle and or linkage arms. My guess is the bike shop will try the retaining...
Brother, you made my day. Thank you for the kind comments, I appreciate them. Should you be interested, I will be releasing a tech article sometime next week covering Shimano braking systems, maintenance and parts interchangeability between the component levels.
Be safe,
Rod
Please keep me posted on whether the retaining compound is successful at keeping the linkage arms from opening up.
Here's what my axle looked like when it finally began slipping a lot and I replaced it.
When I produced the tech article, it was made for the Rise M Carbon model. I don't think the Hydro had been released yet.
Even though the linkage is very similar in design to the Rise Carbon, I would stick with what the Rise Hydro Blue Paper specifies and set the pinch bolt at 15Nm. You are...
Beholdtheflesh,
That's so awesome, I'm happy to hear you found the article useful and got rid of the axle creak. That creak drove me nuts. Don't forget about the lower axle. It will also start to creak in a month or so. It's an easy fix. You got this..!
The shock extender bolt should fit flush...
