Our entry in the “Awkward size for kids bikes now 26” is an endangered species” category... ?
It went on it’s maiden voyage today to rave reviews; replacing the old 3x8 with 1x10 Deore was a huge hit, and having a fork that actually moves was a bit of a revelation too! I even inverted the stem...
Probably not huge news here compared to what it will mean to many of our roadie colleagues, but Strava are shaking up their service and going all in on subscriptions to try and become profitable...

Agreed, though I wouldn't mind a bit more sealing of bearings and other ingress points to improve the underlying reliability - Mahle seem to have taken that on board with their new motor for Specialized, let's hope it proves successful.
Nothing I’ve seen in real life (I know 5 owners locally who have been through 7 or 8 replacement motors between them) or on these forums would convince me to buy a Brose motored Spec. The fact they have started this new partnership with Mahle is very telling...
I suspect the fact the looks of the original Monterra were an “acquired taste” ;) probably hasn’t helped the newer model. It also seems very short (425mm reach in a medium) by modern standards...
...so the shorter travel Habit has more contemporary geometry - if I was going for a Crack-n-fail...
The less often you ride, the worse it is to leave the pack at elevated SOC. The greater the time that is spent at or near full charge the greater the anode degradation which causes loss of capacity and reduced cycle life.
If you leave a battery fully charged (or anything above 80% SOC) for any length of time you are likely to see an increased rate of capacity and cycle life degradation, but that will be that case whether on the bike or off it. Store it inside (not too hot, not too cold) and between 30-80% SOC and...
Great story! Sadly I think that fork is now in the unobtainium bracket - I couldn't find a short travel straight taper air fork from RS that you can actually buy anywhere, even though their site indicates they do exist...
What fork is on that @steve_sordy? I have had a hell of a game sourcing a new 100mm air fork with a straight taper steerer for my daughters 26" Scott. In the end got a Suntour one from Tredz that is being fitted at my LBS tomorrow, but that seems like the last (new) one left in the country! Bike...
The Vado looks nice, but for the vast majority of the cycle commuters is still too expensive, though I am sure Spec have worked out what they need to make money off of their (perceived premium) brand. In reality hub motored bikes are absolutely fine for all but the hilliest of commutes, and...
Agreed, there is no way you can look at this scientifically without access to either the pack/cell voltages (not easy with commercially assembled packs with an inbuilt BMS) or the calculated SOC based on that voltage (i.e. the % in the app). TBH the charging of Li ion packs is very consistently...
No, Li ion batteries have no memory effect. As long as you do not leave the pack at an elevated SOC (>4V/cell) for more than 24 hours there is no difference between charging in 4x small bursts from 75% vs a full charge from 0%.
On this point you are correct. It's true that deep discharge...
Other than very slowly wearing the bearings and any internal gearing in the unit (as you would if the motor assist was on, but at a slower rate with the motor off) there shouldn't be any meaningful wear. Brushless motors themselves a very low on moving parts and extremely reliable. It is water...
Agreed. I would start with 10-15 mile rides to start with, and build up from there. Getting the bike adjusted correctly and finding the right saddle are important, but there will probably always be a degree of discomfort when starting riding after a long time off.
Looks like your Dork disc is still on the back (the clear plastic disc just inside the cassette); probably easier to remove it now if you have a cassette tool and chain whip whilst everything is squeeky clean! Other than checking the shifting on the stand and charging it up I wouldn't bother...
Honestly, what is your beef here? My only point is that (at a given price point) you will get lower end components on a locally supported bike than you will on a direct sales one. Which you care most about (local support or component level) is up to you, but at the £3-4k price point it's a fact...
