When I went into my LBS the other day they said that getting stock of pretty much anything was very difficult at present due to increased demand during lockdown, though obviously cheaper bikes for new/returning cyclists were most tricky to find. Your Dec date doesn't surprise me that much given...
Interesting, lots to like there particularly the neat integrated rear mudguard... Seems unlikely you build a whole new bike to sell only 35 though. I suspect they are testing the market to see the demand for a longer travel, longer and slacker enduro bike (the original MIG and even the 2.0 are...
I suspect to make it work really well you would need a gradient sensor too; by the time cadence is dropping it might be too late to make a smooth change down under load. They could even integrate a sensor that scans the ground for changes in gradient a la F1 active suspension from the 90s -...
As per my previous post further up the page, these "Battery health" percentages mean diddly squat unless a) we know exactly how they are calculated, and b) we are confident manufacturers will not to change that calculation over time so like for like comparison is possible. It seems likely cell...
The last generation of Giant batteries were compliant with that esoteric battery standard from the EU which made them safer (at the time it was mooted they may be allowed on aircraft) but heavier - see here...
"The PowerPak 500 battery is made by Giant. I immediately notice it’s quite heavy...
In the main yes, but we also use LiFe too. Even so if you look at the reports on this forum many, many people are seeing faster degradation and getting warranty replacements of their batteries. I suspect a big contributor in many cases are the charging and storage patterns (I.e. storing at...
Just saw this on MBR... The new Scalpel XC / Downcountry (WTF does that mean...) has come out sporting a “Horst-ish” 4-bar linkage. They’ve dispensed with the chainstay pivot completely and done this...
I know Cannondale have often pushed the boundaries in the past (the Lefty...

...except that is hugely dependent on how you store and use the pack. Personally based on a lot of experience of various types of Li packs in RC use I think these 1000 cycle estimates are hugely optimistic. YMMV.
You are lucky if the range estimate from any system is accurate within +-50%, so I really would not get hung up on it - range depends on too many variables (terrain, assistance mode, tyres, height gain etc) that a simple voltage check cannot take into account.
TBH none of the people I asked have ebikes; they are all runners, cyclists or triathletes. Athletes is just what Strava call their users, I guess I drank a bit too much of the cool-aid whilst reading the announcement... ;)
I guess they tried that with the "bucketed" Summit packs already; it can't have worked or they wouldn't have changed to this one-size-fits-all subscription model. I think this is extremely tough for them, they have created a very popular service but not one that is valued enough for most casual...
Having done a (totally unscientific) straw poll of ~15 friends who currently use Strava about 75-80% say they are going stick with the free version or stop using it completely (mostly because the functionality they get from their Garmin or Wahoo is more than sufficient). The remainder already...
Agreed. I think the issue is that in rotating the motor upwards at the front the exit holes from the motor casing are now pointing downwards rather than aligning with the chainstay. That means Whyte's only options were to drill alternative holes in the casing (unlikely to make Bosch happy!)...
I don't agree that having a UK service centre will makes things easier - the shipping is as problematic within a country as it is across borders, because often the package will still travel by air. Personally I still don't really understand why it is seen as safer to ship a battery in a device...
It's a £10k bike, by next year it will probably be £11k or even more... of course it's not worth it! These are just halo models designed by premium brands to appeal to Dentists and add some glamour to the cheaper (but still expensive) variants.
If you only want to do "light trail riding" you...
I am a bit confused at the moment - my free subscription looks like it always did with leaderboards intact, but the change was supposed to go through on May 18th. It seems pretty clear though that at best this is a stay of execution - quite soon free users will have very little functionality at...
Agreed. Fancy drivetrain components are really an unnecessary luxury on an ebike, they will just get worn out quicker. Durability should be the number one priority IMO.
