Peak district today to take in the splendours of Mam Tor, Roych Clough and Jacobs Ladder broken up with some killer climbs and miles of natural gnar on the bridleways.
Most of the day looked like this
It did clear up eventually
I gave up taking pics when the rain set in. Jacobs was on...
A brisk but sunny day in Shropshire today.
The sun may have been out but I still had to navigate at least 4 waterfalls where the trails had turned into streams.
This also meant that I found out the hard way that the DWR on my trousers didn't survive the last wash.
Nikwax ordered.
The derailleur only needs to match the cassette and shifter. Axle and freehub don't matter.
I've never broken an SLX or XT or Deore for that matter.
If you're breaking them often, just go with a Deore. I won't look as flash and wont feel quite as nice but it'll certainly sting less when you...
Cheers.
I've got a work stand that I use a false crossbar thingy to hold the bike. Works well but I'm not keen on regularly getting it wet so something simple like the wheel stand sounds good for washing it.
...Yet... 🤣
If you're mechanically adept, most things you can tell when they're tight enough but some stuff has surprised me.
RaceFace cinch cranks for example, 62nM is the required torque for the crank bolt. Waaay tighter than I would have gone without a torque wrench.
Stem clamp onto a...
Both pretty much essential unless you like replacing the entire drivetrain all at once or enjoy killing frame bearings and carbon parts by over tightening things?
Sorry, I may have got my 1s and 2s mixed up. The E2 was what I wanted and couldn't find.
I ended up with an Orbea Rise which on paper is pretty much at the opposite end of the spectrum to the Alpine Trail.
No regrets though. I've taken it out over your way a few times in the last couple of...
Have you looked at the Alpine Trail E models?
I'd have snapped one up if they had been in stock when I was looking. The E1 spec is amazing for the price.
I ended up with something completely different lol. Quite happy that I got something more trail oriented.
What are you looking at?
Looking at it, it should be airy but it was unuseable during summer. My other helmet is a Giro Montaro which vents really well so perhaps its just that the Fox doesn't breathe as well as the Giro.
I've tried adjusting the liner up and down and tried the Peak at different positions but nothing...
I have a speedframe pro and don't really get on with it.
Fits nice but oh my god it's sweaty. Like really sweaty, dripping down my face and into my eyes sweaty.
Not sure why it's not like it doesn't have vents, they just seem ineffective.
Just me?
Does the fork linkage give a linear compression? Same as a telescoping fork?
What's the effective head angle? The main part of the fork looks mega slack but I'm guessing the wheel travel is not parallel to the chunky bit (technical term, obvs)
I have Thule 598 which leaves the front wheel on. Limit is 20kg.
The fork mount (front wheel off) options I looked at are limited to 18kg so no real benefit in removing the front wheel.
If the bike was 20kg with a wheel, it's going to be basically 18 without. Maybe slightly less depending on...
