I admit to being a little paranoid about this. I damaged my previous car loading the bike on it's first day on the drive. My new car is a little more plush and in immaculate condition so I intend to start as I mean to go on and not skimp on solutions and bodges.
The boot liner is one of these: Car Boot Liners, Load Liners & Dog Guards - Boot Buddy
It's rigid lightweight plastic that covers the whole boot with the seats down. It simply lifts in and out. My idea was to have a block of polystyrene foam, the width of the boot and about 15mm x 15mm or so...
No I was looking for a solid block, the width of a typical estate boot and perhaps 15mm x 15mm square. I would cut a hole to take the pedals and raise the bike. I accept I may be overthinking this. A tarp on the boot-buddy will probably slide as well. I damaged my last car getting the bike in...
Thank you for that advice and the advice to ignore your manner. They are both sound.?
I'm not worrying, I'm simply responding in a similar manner and tone to yours.
No the insulation panels are also rather fragile even though they are firmer and more compact in structure. They still tend to shed bits. The stuff I've seen is usually blue.
I have an estate car that I can get my Orbea into the rear of but it's quite hard work and the pedals get in the way. I am thinking about making a polystyrene "sledge" to help with the process. This should work well when I get my boot-buddy liner but I can't find a source for the material...
How about these: OneUp EDC Gear Straps Grey
I use one to fasten inner tube, spares etc. to the frame as the velcro ones tend to get covered in mud and becomes unpleasant to use.

With regard to the efficacy of D30, I trust the data, up to a point, but I would happily rely on user feedback for issues such as comfort, fit and practicality. I recall seeing a video where a weight is dropped from height onto a pile of Smarties. Without D30 they shatter, with D30 they...
At the risk of starting a furious debate, as happens on a climbing forum, when "the Peaks" are mentioned I should inform you that it is actually "the Peak". It's named after an ancient tribe and not that there are multiple peaks. Because there are not. The best argument I've heard for calling...
I think I would pay more attention to a test in a lab to someone saying they came away unhurt. I have by the way. When I have been hurt in the past it has been the bits that were NOT protected. e.g. knees, so I bought knee pads (D30) and have not injured them since. Elbows, so I bought G Form...
I've bought mine a BMW 5 series Touring (Estate) car to get it to the trails and back in speed and comfort.:) Nothing is too much for my Orbea Wild FS H20. I also recently replaced the Purion with a Kiox.
Is it the the thumb or the carpometacarpal? Ergon grips, adjusting the brake levers to an approx 45 degree angle, moving the levers inboard, and adjusting the rise of the handlebars all helped me but I couldn't tell you which one was having the most impact.
It's ALL cheating. Anything other than walking stark b*ll*ck naked could be considered cheating. Shoes and clothing make things easier. Wheels, gears, pedals all make things easier. It's all a matter of where you draw the line.

I've shown you mine(references that is) so now show me yours :) I would agree it's not quite that straightforward but unless you provide evidence to the contrary I'll stick with this interpretation.
