• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Thinking about buying a VOLspeed 3 for my 2023 gasgas trail 3. I heard some derestriction product can damage some newer yamaha pw-st. The motor get hot or get locked out. Which happened more with speedbox system. Thanks for any help.

Hi Pedec,
I also have a GasGas with Yamaha PW-ST (this year model) and already identified that SpeedBox 3.0 is not compatible with it. Did you finally bough any chip tuning? What is your experience?

Hello guys,

I don't know about the GASGAS directly, but we've derestricted plenty of Yamaha powered e-bikes using a PLANET3. Even ones that featured a spoke magnet and the sensor on the chainstay can be done if the sensor is relocated to the rear dropout and if the hub end cap geometry is compatible with our parts. If you have the bike handy and can take a look at the rear hub on the braking side, we can see what can be done. I've just done a quick Google search and this should be the rear hub on your bikes:

If the braking side looks like that, that's very promising. For more info you can either PM me here or preferably just go through the PLANET3 webpage's contact form: Contact - PLANET3.

Regards,
Alex

Yes bought a Volspeed v3 from e-bike tuners a year ago and 2400km ago and still working great. Highly recommend.
