    Advice: Starting from scratch

Over here in RSA these bikes are more in the shop than on the road. I was told this by several friends who own them and when I was in the market. All e-bikes have shortcomings. Dont underestimate AI. It summarises what is out there in one place. Do the same even for Specialized. Still took me 3...

    Advice: Starting from scratch

Never buy a Trek.... just saying. As a beginner, source a 2nd hand Specialized Levo. I have a 2023, bought in 2024 as a beginner. Check the specs. Don't get caught it in the hype. Good battery 700Wh, torque 90Nm and power 565W. Good luck.

Hello from Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Have you had issues? Friends who own Trek bikes have lots of issues.

    Winter blues

You should migrate south in the winter, to the Highveld (Gauteng Migrate to South Africa (Highveld, Gauteng, around Johannesburg) in winter 😉 No rain, sun every day (with exceptions). Here ee define chilly as 8 degrees Celsius with the max around 20. Cape Town is in a winter rainfall region...

My Old Riding Buddies Won't Ride With me Anymore

Same here. I am 61 and can't keep up with my groups, all much younger than me (6 to 24 years), including my wife, a MTB maniac (the 100km+ rider over 4 days). All those riders ask where I am if I am not riding. I can now enjoy riding with them, whereas before, they had to wait for me, which is...

Orbea Rise or Trek Fuel EXE (i know again!) Buying advice

Can't really comment (a newbie) but after extensive online research (I publish in academic journals so it is natural for me to dig deeper), it was always between the Levo and Orbea. Over here in South Africa, and it may well be dealer-related, Trek is not a favourite. No wonder they are dropping...

Is falling off a new emtb always going to happen?

First thing I got rid of! I hardly feel a difference using flat pedals and shoes. My feet are still "stuck".

Is falling off a new emtb always going to happen?

Thank you for the advice. My wife, who is 55, attends some advanced MTB training with a former pro. I can see her confidence. She suggested I also join. I have done MTB for some years and grew up riding a bicycle (good old days), but this e-bike weight is something else at this age. I'm not...

Is falling off a new emtb always going to happen?

@Jeffsy29 Thanks, I'll have a look at those shirts! My wife (normal MTB and younger at 55)) does skills training, and she said the same to me last week - look further ahead.! On our single trails, many paths are typically hollowed out and narrow (the 1st fall), so I now tend to either ride on...

Is falling off a new emtb always going to happen?

I searched for a post like this. I fell twice on the 1st ride, somewhat accidentally (bad luck), but stitches were required and bruised muscles are still with me. I have only done 100 kilometres since then, but I have to say that it is a different beast from the carbon MTB I had. Maybe it is a...
