Answered Shorter Shimano FC-E8000 cranks?

Hi everyone,

I would like to fit shorter cranks to my new bike but can't seem to find any smaller than the 170mm currently on it. I see quite a few posts on here about shorter cranks but haven't come across anyone mentioning shorter ones to this spec. Is there any, or an alternative I can fit?

You can get them in germany and Holland if you Google it. About 90 quid last time I looked. Remember it might affect your seat post height.

Oh man, thought I’d escaped Miranda with this bike. Used to pay a fortune for chainrings off them on the old bike. Thanks for the heads up though, if you reckon they’d fit it’s good to know where I can get hold of shorter ones. ?

I'm looking for 155 crank arm's for shimano steps as don't think the 165 are a big enough drop down in length to help reduce pedals strikes. Any one know if available? I've changed riding style to reduce strikes but think 155 arms are the way to go.

Lots of us in here have the Miranda Delta SH cranks for the E8000. Come in 150,155,160,165,170:

SRAM are bringing out similar range of size cranks for the E8000 for 2019, not sure when they will be in shops. Hope also bringing out cranks, but again not listed on their website yet.

Cheers for the info, Miranda currently have no 155 or 160 which would be my preference. I've messaged to ask when they anticipate having them back in stock.

Please excuse the low quality of these scales, but a pair of FC-E8000 175mm cranks weigh approximately 518g.
According to Shimano Steps Kurbelgarnitur FC-M8050 | BIKEIMPORT
FC-E8000:
165mm = 531g
170mm = 535g
175mm = 538g
FC-E8050:
170mm = 451g
175mm = 455g
FC-M8050:
165mm = 447g
170mm = 452g
175mm = 459g

FC-E8050 = £67.29
FC-M8050 = £81.72

So you are sawing about 0.4 % in weight if your bike Is 22 kg, does it make any sense?

Haha, point taken. Actually my friend took the piss for the same reason when I got Carbon Fatbars. I think it's actually more important to save weight when your bike is heavier than you want. The main reason for changing cranks was for pedal strikes, but the weight saving opportunity is interesting (even though it's hard to quantify if there is even a benefit here).
